Have you ever been really sick but your blood sugar was not reflecting that? Just wondering because I have been trying to kick this "flu" thing for 9days and my blood sugar has been fine, so I keep assuming I will soon fight it off. My 6yr old had strep throat Monday, but if I was catching something BAD or worsening wouldn't my BS reflect that?
Not necessarily...Do you want a theory I can't prove? Your liver hasn't been told you are sick yet, so it hasn't kicked in its glucose supply to your defense system, so your defense system has been fighting with "one arm tied behind its back", and you've been sick longer...

A virus? Does Liver-boy respond more to infections?

Are you asking me? I assume all "infections" require a similar response from the liver, in order to have the "energy" to fight the invader. I know from my personal experience almost every time I get sick, my sugars are fine/low the first couple days (when I really feel like ****) and then they TAKE OFF about Day 3, like my liver suddenly got the message "Hey! Need some help here!" and it dumps glucose to "help".
That's my theory (and yes, I post this all the time...all the time).

I agree. During all the years I have had diabetes, whenever I was about to get a cold, I would go low on day 1. It was almost like the lull before the storm. Then as my cold started, my sugars would climb and I would need more insulin.

I have been fighting bronchitis and a sinus infection since last Friday. I first started noticing that I was getting sick last Wednesday. By Friday, I was having to take more insulin to counter more highs. Went to the doc on Friday and started antibiotics. Finished antibiotics on Tuesday and sugar levels are starting to stabilize now.
Being sick blows !!!!!!!

Okay, *stop* this talk of being sick!!! My kids are back in public school after being homeschooled for years... I really don't want them bringing *anything* home to me!

Seriously, I'm the same as duck says. I always feel like I'm fighting illnesses with my system not quite up to par. Of course, I've been sick since January, so I really don't need any more virii attacking me.
