My daughter has type 1 diabetes, and she got sick last week.
An ultrasound showed a swollen liver, and I am wondering how serious or not serious this can be? She is seeing a specialist as soon as possible early next week. Any information appreciated. She had some trouble with a liver issue 6 moths ago and they said it had symptoms of hepatitas A as a liver test indicated this, she was ill then but the symptims cleared up after two weeks. Now, the doctor is thinking sugar got in the liver??? A bit scared here. She is 16 and type 1 since age 2

What kind of liver test? To really evaluate the condition of the liver they usually do a biopsy. Besides the muscles the liver is the largest repository of sugar. When the liver has become weakened any contact with any chemical can cause it to become inflamed.

She sees a specialist next week to evaulate. She had several blood tests the past two days at the hospital, so waiting results on that. I would not be surprise they recommend a biopsy. Hopefully the doctors will quickly resolve this. Interesting as she was sick with some type of virus and a bad migrane (had a fever also) several days before the liver problem showed up..may be related. The headache and fever are gone now, but the liver is still swollen as of now.
