Hi all!

I always test my BG levels as soon as I wake up in the morning. Recently my readings have been as low as 60. Despite taking half of my Metformin dosage and eating a high carb snack before bedtime, my readings stay at 60. Just concerned that it could be too low. Was just wondering if anyone here experienced the same thing and if so, how you dealt with it. Thanks!

Well, I'm T1 so my experiences are a bit different.

Have you been more physically active lately? Have you lost weight? These factors can influence your control significantly.

That's my contribution, although I'm sure there are more possible factors.

Heather, I haven't changed my excercise routine in the past year, but I did lose 5 pounds in the past month. This must be the reason for the low readings...

I'm also type one so not really sure, but you may need to look at reducing your dose of Metformin. If you are not confident in doing this yourself speak to your doctor.

You should talk to you doctor anyway. If your losing weight for no reason that could be a sign of something else.

Another thought would be to eat some protein at night with your carbs. I was told this slows the carb absorbtion over a longer period of time. It may be worth a try.

yes, our bodies digest protien at a slower rate than carbs, so if you combine the two, then you get an in between rate.

For a similar reason, you should never eat fruit with or after a meal, because the fruit speeds up your digestive process so much that our body will actually miss out on lots of the nutrients in the food that we eat, and put our bs up much quicker.

Or these are the theories of Sam Graci

The theory about eating fruit alone and never with other food is also advocated by Suzanne Somers in her book Eat, Cheat, and Melt the Fat Away. It's an interesting read.

Does that mean eating fruit after a meal would help with weight loss cos of the loss of nutrients
