For all you pumpers, and you know who you are ;), do you use the 6mm or the 9mm set? And if you use the shorter ser, does it go deep enough? I use the longer set, but I am wondering if switching to the shorter one would be better.
Thanks for your help :)

Am,
Are you using the Quick Sets? I only ask because some people have had issues with them and absorption. Have you tried any other sets (i.e. the Paradigm Silhouette, Sof-set, or Paradigm Polyfin)?
As far as lengths go, I've always used the 9mm (or the longer length sets). Each person is different, but for me, they seem to work pretty well.
Currently, I'm on Disetronic Rapid-D's and I sometimes also use Polyfins. I know that you can't use Rapid-D's with your Paradigm, but it might be worth it to try the Paradigm Polyfins. If there is a difference in sugars, perhaps a different set type may be part of the solution. Hope this helps. :)

I use the 6mm QuickSets. They say that the 6mm is for thinner people, but I'm not that thin and they work well for me. I've found no difference in absorption between the 6 and the 9mm Qss, but with the 6mm, I get fewer kinked cannulas (your results may vary). Before switching and getting a large number that you may not be able to return, I'd call Minimed (or whichever set mfg you're considering) and request some samples.

I use the soft-sets 9mm, until I found this site I didn't realize there were different infusion sets. My trainer never told me. After getting my new pump, I want to get different sets to try to see what I like best. So I will have to let you know.

I'm using 6mm quicksets, and I like them better than 9mm, but I didn't notice any difference in absorption either.
It's the matter of personal prefference I guess ;)

I have tried most of the sets. I used the soft-set 9mm to begin with and didn't like the pigtail that hung off the canula when you disconnected. I tried the silhouettes and didn't care for them either. I had a line scar after using them that lasted for about three weeks. I went to the 9mm quicksets and liked them a lot, but I had a lot of problems with kinked canulas. My numbers would go up and when I removed the set and inspected the canula it was bent. My pump didn't tell me that there was a problem, just high numbers. I switched to the 6mm and haven't had any problems since. I have stuck with the 6mm 23" tube Quicksets since. I am not skinny either. I am about 10 lbs overweight and have had no problem with absorption.

Hello all
This is a major concern to me as well. Like “NotMe" I did the exact same sequence of infusion sets. Same reason for the first change, I did not like the pig tail hanging out. Then the silhouettes, I liked the idea but hated the length of cannula and the insertion of the device was more than I liked. I wanted shorter. I am using the Soft Sets now and I am getting a lot of failures with them. I am using the 9mm cannula. If changing to the 6mm cannula will help I'm going to change with my next order. I talked with MiniMed and they tell me that my body is rejecting my cannula after a matter of hours or days and failing because of that.
I was wondering about the change to a shorter device. Now I think I am convinced of it.

this is very interesting to read. I guess everyone has different experiences with the infusion sets, and what may work for someone may not be the same for someone else.
I have posted under another thread that I am taking about a month's break from the pump, or time just to get my bs back under control and things more stable. But when I do go back to the pump, I am going to ask for some sample of the 6mm quick sets. I have used the Silhouttes(which I did not like at all) and am on the 9 mm quicksets right now, but am curious to see if I'll do better with the shorter length. I am not really thin either, but I guess it's worth a shot.
I just switched to the 6mm quick Sets today. I will have them by Thursday next week. I'll try to remember to let you know if this makes a diference in my situation.

I use the 6mm 23in quick set and have only had one failure with the old style quicksets in a years time, the new style which they have recalled were terrible....why mess with a good thing
Dave
I am not exacly sure what yo are refereing to as being the good thing product. I am switching from 9mm to 6 mm to hopefully get fewer rejections and to be able to place the cannula in my thigh areas or other sections where I do not have as much skin, fat, or other materials to incert a 90 degree device.
NO one a t MiniMed could say if one device worked better than another. So they recomended the shorter cannula. I hope this ends the continuous rejection of my infusion sites.

I am refering to the MMT-399 quickset ........it worked much better then they product they replaced it with.
Thanks
Now I understand. This is the thing that often happens. They look for some other input and simply forget to get information from the patients. They let the scientists keep creatiing products without thinking if it already works.

I got my 6mm cannula quick Sets this week and I am wearing one now. So far the rejection seems to be similar but not as drastic as the 9mm cannula quick sets I have been using.
I will try another site to make sure I have not been rejected but I may simply be higher to control with an antibiotic I was taking for the past 20 days. I am off of it and the BG's have come down quite a bit lately as well.
Actually I have no definite proof that the shorter ones will not get rejected like the 9mm have. But I am still experimenting. I hope this information becomes of some use after I have found a few more answers about it.
Take care
Don
