Cool, I ordered one too. Those 10 strips should cover 1 day,lol

They could really at least put a few more strips in the boxes, even BD meters give you 25.

Maybe they just want some marketing data?

dLife had some other "freebie offers", including a home A1c test (posted in the Chit-Chat forum, see the Freebies sticky post at the top), and at least 3 months have gone by, and I've seen nothing from them.

I suppose they probably got more offers than Abbott is willing to send out.

I did see the Freestyle Lite for $38 at Walmart, with a $40 mail-in-rebate inside the box.

bump this to the front again so everyone can have a chance to order before the offer is withdrawn.

Dont worry if this offer disappears, another one will show up and if you want a free meter, you can call most companies and they will send you a free one in the mail anyway.

If anyone would like the coupon that I got for this meter , I will mail it out. Abott meters are not the peferred ones with my insurance, so I am not going to buy strips just to try this one.
Just pm me and let me know.

Dewey

I stuck the thread so it won't disappear, but if the offer ends, then I'll unstick it.

I have to be honest in that I'm a little put off that companies are now giving coupons instead of meters....seems a little cheesy to me. Most of the money is made on strips anyhow, so giving some meters away to get people interested would only seem more helpful to the company...who knows why they've resorted to doing it this way, though.

That said, I Still haven't received Anything & I initially "put in" for it in September.

I feel the same way. Send me a free meter in the mail with enough, at least 25 strips so that I can try it a day or two and I may switch to your product. Going to the pharmacy to get the free meter and possibly needing a script to get it is to much trouble. Most of my test strips come mail order, so I am not making a special trip just for this. Gas costs to much right now.

I agree -- getting coupons that require a doctor's prescription causes me to rarely redeem it because I usually don't remember to ask for one. I usually only get them for the 10 free strips, and once those are gone, the batteries get placed in another meter.

Speaking of batteries, I heard a commercial for Duracell that combined Accu-chek meters. The commercial announcer said, "And when people rely on their meter 3 to 4 times a day, they need a battery you can depend on...."

The way the commercial said it didn't make sense. It should have been "10 times a day" ... now people who hear the commercial think that all diabetics only test 3 to 4 times a day. That's hardly enough strips to get me through the morning.

NoelD

The Flash seems bigger to me. The Lite seems smaller and weighs less. It's also faster to me. No coding is nice. I've been using it exclusively for about 5 months or so now and love it.

Funnygrl
03-04-2008, 02:44 PM
They're almost the same size. The Lite is lighter- probably because it takes one less battery. The backlight is a little different. It has a whiter hue to it on the Lite, versus a green one on the Flash. The Lite's font is WAY bigger. The Lite doesn't display time all the time- you need to press the C button to get the time. The Lite has a larger memory and you can scroll backwards and forwards. The Lite has 7, 14, and 30 day averages versus just 14 on the Flash. The Lite has a yellow strip port to make it easier to aim. The Lite also added rubber grips.

And those are the differences. Overall, I loved my Flash and the Lite is a great improvement on it.

I got the Lite. I just know that the Freedom is much larger, has a larger display and I'm not sure the Freedom has the strip port light. Other than that, I think they are pretty much the same and if you are <90 years old or think a smaller meter is better than a larger meter, you should probably get the Lite.

I didn't see this mentioned so I thought I would post it. I wasn't a member, but saw this on thread on a google search. I was looking for coupons for free strips when I clicked my way to a ebay site. A lady was offering information on 100 free strips from Abbott for the lite. I had already filled out the offer for the free unit and had a reply email stating it was being filled. I then figured out if she could find the site and was selling the info, I could find it also. I've been told I'm a pretty good googler. Anyway, I found the site at https://www.freestyleliteprogram.com/adfree/
You do have to register and as I've seen here, if your from CA you will have to send in the release form. How it works. There is a survey that has maybe a dozen questions and when you finish it they send you 50 strips for the lite. I received mine 2 days after completing the survey from fed ex. You then wait 3 weeks for the second survey. Today, I did the second half of the survey and it was about 15 questions and took all of 5 minutes. The questions are 1-9 best to worst, so it really took less than that. At the end of the survey it stated my next 50 strips would be sent. I haven't even gotten the lite unit yet, but I have 2 freestyles [a regular and a flash] so I figured I could answer the questions. I knew the coding number was no longer an issue with the lite. If you fill out the second survey, don't say no to using it yet. It will tell you to come back after you use it. I just relogged in and answered yes and it let me continue. I hope the site still works for you and I didn't feel this info should be sold on ebay. We get charged enough for strips. Sorry for some of you, luckily I only test twice a day.

The site worked for me yesterday. I still have my Lite so I can use the strips. I have insurance, but I have to pay out of pocket for prescriptions and then get I reimbursed for 80% after a $200.00 deductible. This will keep me from having to pay for about 1 month since I test 2-3 times per day. More often when I'm feeling hypo or hyper or when I drive a lot. I also entered the web site in my favorites and e-mailed a copy to my daughter-in-law. She has no insurance and can definitely use the strips. She is T1 and on the pump.
I think you can also still order the meter if you google free style lite. I saw it a few days ago. Good luck everyone.

The local Abbott rep just stopped over at our store and dropped a case of Lite's and Freedom Lite's (12 meter's in all) as well as a case of sample strips (#10 strips per box). I was under the impression that I could get more if I wanted.

Since the internet has a much larger audience than our little store out here in the sticks I could see Abbott stopping after a while. If you're looking for a meter you might want to try your local pharmacy.

She also dropped off some $50/mo cards for those with insurance and cash customers. My understanding is: there is a $15 co-pay (?) so if you are a cash customer and you buy 1 box at $50 you’ll have to pay $15. If you buy a box at $100 you’ll have to pay $50. This is suppose to be good for 18 months(?) If you have insurance you have to run it thru your primary insurance and this card will be used as a secondary to cover what the primary doesn’t cover. Clear as mud? None of this is written down so I’m trying to remember what she said exactly. I apologize if I got part of it wrong but it sounds correct.

I just got an email offering me another one. If anyone wants the email, let me know and I will forward it.

I got a letter saying that the 3 week trial was up. I went to the website to no avail. The phone number didn't work either, so I called customer service and they're sending me a free meter (that I put in numerous orders for and still didn't get one) and the 50 strips with overnight delivery. I still have bunches of regular freestyle strips with the first freedom meter. I still haven't opened the first box of 50 strips.

That's the meter the hospital gave us and we're using it now! I love it...but it's not like I've been able to compare with others because we are only two weeks into living with diabetes.
We are talking about the one that can check for ketones, right?
I know ours does and it's from that company. The strips that go with them are called precision Xtra.
I could be wrong now that I'm thinking about it. Where is that box our meter came in?????
