I went to the endo last Thursday. My A1C was 6.8! Great! However my numbers on my meter tells me it should have been about 8. They were going to do a CBC-that could be a problem. How? If my CBC was ok-my next step is to get a CGMS for a few days. Any ideas on what is going on?? Thanks for any help. Beth:confused:

Remember, an A1C is an average of ALL BGs over 3 months, that's the time in between testing. A BG meter will most likely never accurately match an A1C unless you test 200 times a day with it. A CGMS however should match an A1C since both are using data from all 24 hours in the day.

Beth:
I was also wondering as to why the actual A1c differs from the average readings of the home meter. Wearing CGMS for three days showed me what was going on. The BG levels in-between the readings were the reason for such deviations. For example, my bed time and the wake-up readings were OK, but during the night the numbers were dropping below 70 and after 3 AM due to DP they were climbing up slowly. Even now weekends when I wake up quite late the numbers are higher than 100 (My goal is to keep below 100).
Then I went on insulin. A shot of Levemir at bed time works for me. Wearing a CGMS for three days shows how the sugar spikes after eating, how long it takes to come down, etc. If you can keep good track of carb numbers it helps even more. Good luck with it.

Thanks for the info. I must be having quite a few lows and don't know it. My readings for the past three months have been REALLY high.Beth
