Welcome to the forum. Lots of great information can be found here.
As for your diabetes, unfortunately once you have it, you have it. Some people can control blood sugars with diet and exercise alone, some need more help with medication(s). Regardless of which method you use, your goal should be to have as close to non-diabetic levels as possible. I'd advise you to keep a close watch on your blood sugars by testing regularly...this way, if they start trending upwards, you'll know early on and you and your doctor can make whatever changes are necessary.

It's possible, but it's more likely you are merely at the beginning stages and your lifestyle changes were enough to control it. If you are realy diabetic, you will progress. Monitor at least your morning fasting sugars a few times a week. When it creeps back up, start the meds again and test more. You are consulting your doctor, right?

Alcohol is an interesting animal. Most drinks contain carbs which raise your BGs, but the alcohol then keeps the liver busy so it does not release its normal sugars and you drop.
I now bolus for drinks then drop my basals back to 25% an hour for every drink plus one hour: 2 drinks I set a 3 hour temp basal rate at 25%. I start the temp basal when my last drink is done. That's me and I really don't have a great feel for whether it works. I've hypoed a few times with alcohol.

Depends of the way you get your alcohol. Mixed drinks with lots of carbs will probably cause you to yo-yo. Mixed drinks with carbs free mixes or diet colas will drop your B/g, more than likely.
beer, Guinness, Black and Tan, that type of drink will send your B/G through the roof.
