Can anyone tell me why, before pumping, I was using more than 3 times the amount of insulin I am using on a pump and my numbers were still high. I am using much less insulin on pump and my numbers are getting really good now? Why? Take care. Carolyn.

Hi when I started pumping in january I was told I would probably need less insulin due to how it is absorbed by your body when delivered by pump.

Some of it can be a change in insulin type. Another can be how it's absorbed. Then there's the alignment of Venus and Mars.

Did you switch insulins or something? I don't see how it could be that significant just by getting your basal rate right, but if you didn't switch insulin, then that's probably why.

For me it was the roller coaster effect. It was like flying a helicopter in Microsoft Flight Sumulator; the more you try to correct, the less stable you become. It's insedious and vicious. Pumping is a much more ordered delivery system and these wild swings are largely avoided.
