So while I'm waiting to try to get some medical assistance I've gotten both my insulins through the makers' assistance programs. I found out I could do the same thing with my AccuChek strips-cool! I get the application, fill it out and bring it to the clinic for them to sign and write the prescription, same drill; the diabetes specialist there has been helping me with it. Then a couple days later I get a call from the clinic saying they need me to come in and see a doctor so they can write the prescription for me.
I said why? I didn't have to do that for the insulin ones. The lady on the phone tried to feed me some bullsh1t about how you can get insulin over the counter.
I said but, you can get test strips over the counter too! I don't understand.
We both repeated ourselves a couple of times and I said that doesn't answer my question.
The lady finally says I don't know, I'm just the messenger.
(Well f*cking find out then!!)
Obviously they weren't going to let me get away with not seeing somebody or they aren't going to let me get my strips, so I have an appointment at 8:00 tomorrow morning. x_x

That application was no different than the other ones; it said-
1. Fill out and sign this form
2. attach tax information
3. bring to your doctor to sign the second page and write prescription
It didn't say anything about making a special appointment. So I still don't get why they're making me and I'm not satisfied with the answers I got. I can understand having an appointment, but they should've done it for the others too then.
And. They know **** well I don't have insurance right now; that's the whole point of applying for this assistance **** so I can get by until I can get some insurance. Who do they think is gonna pay for the appointment?!

F*ckers. :motz:

They actually are not under any obligation to sign the form for you at all, are they? So it could be worse; they could just tell you, "no, go away."

I imagine most people bring in these forms when they have a scheduled appointment for other reasons, rather than scheduling an appointment solely to get the form signed. So at least be prepared to use your visit with the doctor for any other needs or questions you have at the time. Make the most of your visit and get your money's worth.

Forgot to say that your doctor's office may have a very strict general policy about writing a prescription without an office visit. This could be a policy that applies to all prescription requests, not just requests for prescriptions to be submitted to manufacturers for discounted diabetic supplies....Who knows why the office worker couldn't explain....There is a lot of incompetence out there....I'd ask again when you actually go to the appointment.

Thanks, I intend to. Hopefully someone there can answer my question.

I agree with Slipperyelm here. A lot of offices actually charge a few for filling out paperwork, and many have policies against writing scripts without a visit, so it doesn't seem to me like that is asking too much.

So, how would I know that? I've never had to deal with anything like this before.

Apparently they were supposed to have me make appointments for the insulin ones as well but didn't for whatever reason. The appointment...egh. I didn't really like the doctor (I hadn't seen him before). Kept telling me about all this lab work that I need to have done; yes I KNOW about all that shi!t; how am I supposed to do it without insurance?!?

Why would they make me have an appointment when they know I can't pay for it? That was my whole point in the first place.

I think I need to take a break from posting for awhile. *frustration*

That all just SUX Dar!! You're right, if they've required it for the strips script, then they should have required it for the insulin scripts .... or the other way around ... it NOT be required, since the insulin one's weren't! That's just LAME! AND I KNOW EXACTLY WHERE YOU'RE COMING FROM!!! I don't have insurance either. Thankfully, my doc does all he can to keep my costs to a minimum by prescribing me stuff off the $4 list at Walmart and I'm on Novolin insulins, which I get the Walmart "co-branded" version [ReliOn] which is 1/2 the cost of plain ole Novolin. [EXACT same stuff!!!] at only $19.96 per vial! Nothing he can do about the lab costs ..... but I have them done, and I pay them a little at a time! It's all I can do! Test strips, i'm s.c.r.e.w.e.d on! As we all know, who have to pay for them ourselves, this is the MOST expensive of it all, especially if we are to test as we should!! I don't qualify for the "assistance" programs! SUX again! Besides, no place that I know of helps with OneTouch Test Strips! I find it appauling that the Meter companies don't have any assistance programs, or ANYONE for that matter!! What good is it to do all you do, without testing?? How are we supposed to know if what we are doing is actually working or not?? Go to the doc every 3 to 6 months? That don't tell us anything, really! Not on a day to day basis anyway! UGH! Yes, FRUSTRATING it is indeed!!!

Dar, how long has it been since you've seen this doctor? If it's been awhile, they probably just want to see you for an appointment anyways.

I hadn't seen that one before and I didn't like him. He didn't even know how much the strips were!!

I finally got my strips yesterday; I should be good for a few months now and by that time I should have MinnesotaCare coverage. They'll probably try to screw me over though....

Who?
