I usually eat cereal, but I am getting feedback from people here :) thank goodness!!

So I am throwing this question. "What is your breakfast?"

Thanks,

Michiko

1 piece flax or saw-dust bread, natural PB, homemade jelly (sweet!), and 1 cup 1% milk. I handle it very well with a pre-bolus.

Today I had homemade (scratch!) punkin pie. It has almost the full sugar, but it behaves very well too. Pumpkin is low sugar and high fibre.

In my experience quantity is much more important than quality in controlling post prandials.

Scrambled eggs, 1/3 c Udi's granola with a little skim milk, 1 sausage pattie.

This morning, I had a high-protein chocolate drink (EAS Carb Advantage) and a few slices of cantaloupe. When I have time, i'll have a couple scrambled eggs with a couple pieces of bacon or a South Beach high-protein cereal bar.

Also, no rule that says you have to have breakfast foods for b/fast. I'll sometimes eat some turkey or ham wrapped around cheese, or have a spoon of peanut butter and an apple. I've had a couple of turkey franks (no bun) as well.

There's no rule that says you have to eat breakfast either. Sometimes I'll skip it, but that throws my liver into a tizzy and I need to at least double my lunchtime boluses. I find it very doable to skip then have a light snack in mid-morning. You have to test the **** out of these situations to find what works for you.

Depends on what meds you take. When I took my metformin twice daily (instead of just at bedtime like I do now), if I didn't eat, I'd feel nauseous AND go low...not a fun combination. Before diabetes, i'd never eat breakfast and do fine.

Ya.. I take Metformin twice a day now, and that is my experience. I usually ate one meal and two meals (if I was lucky) before the diagnose. So this is a huge change that I am eating three times a day....Since the diagnose on 9/11/07 I am eating three times.. wow.. that is a huge change in my life.

A big slab of cheesecake! No, just kidding. One of my favorite breakfasts is yogurt with a high fiber cereal mixed in.

Today it was a monster sized bowl of cereal with whole milk.
I usually have a whole quiche in the fridge that I can heat a piece of if I have time. Usually I just grab a slice of and eat cold when I need to run.
On the weekends I have what Capt Dave had.

I am having a really hard time with my morning glucose readings. When I test at 3-4am my sugar will be normal (6.0), then by 7 am it rises to approx. 10.0. I do 2u of humalog to correct and it has almost no effect.
I usually inject 1u humalog /15 grams carbs.
In the am it is more like 3u/15 grams and I still spike really high before the humalog seems to work.
I am running out of ideas here. Its infuriating.
Whats almost worse is that if I skip breakfast, the phenomenon seems to transfer to the first meal I eat (i.e. lunch). Then when I eat my lunch at 12 pm I have to use the higher insulin to carb ratio and again I still get a spike in blood sugar.
I'm not sure what to try next. Any ideas????
I am currenbtly on 32 u of lantus at 1pm and bolus humalog as necessary with a humalog to carb ration of 1u:15g typically.
Thanks.

Usually it's one or two pieces of toasted light wheat bread (Stop & Shop brand) with spray butter or a small amount of peanut butter. Coffee with one Equal and lots of light cream.

Sometimes I'll make an omelet the night before and take that into work with me for breakfast. Also, Special K Protein Plus with Hoods Calorie Countdown Milk (3g carbs), a packet of Equal and a handful of walnuts fills me up and barely raises my blood sugar.

I always find that the sooner I eat after rising the better I am.. If I wait an hour my bg has already climbed up... I do not even add any extra insulin for any rise that might have already happened.. but that might not work for everyone... if I get up at 6 am I try to eat by 6.20 am at th latest...luckily my body has grown to expect the food right away, so I am hungry for it...

My fave bf is an apple chopped and thinly sliced, topped with cottage cheese and a pour of whipping cream..this is supposed to be even better with grated apple, but don't like knuckles in my food....

Well, it's a distant relation to lox and cream chees on a bagel

I eat lox (4 oz) and fat free cream chees on a GG brand rye crisp ( 4 to 6 crackers). It's not so bad once you get used to it.

Oh, that and a really strong cup of coffee

I have 1 serving of steel-cut oatmeal with some raisins, a little milk, and a little maple syrup mixed in. Also 1/2 c grapefruit juice and a cup of coffee with cream and Sweet-N-low. One day a week I splurge and have 3 fried eggs with a piece of bread to sop up the egg yolk! I've found that I, too, have trouble with lunchtime blood sugars if I skip breakfast.

If I don't eat breakfast then I'm a miserable SOB all day!
Usually it's a scramble with:
1/3lb of fresh sausage
1/2 onion
1 med potato, diced
1 tsp minced garlic
2 shakes Texas Pete
3 eggs with 1/4 cp whole milk
top with sliced jalepeno peppers
all in a bowl along with large glass of Mayfields followed by 2 cups black coffee.
Can beat the world with that behind you!

Well, if I want stable, good BG's, I don't eat anything at all. Mornings are *TOUGH* for me BG-wise if I eat anything, even if it's low carb. 95% of the time, it's nothing. The other 5% are extreme splurges, and I eat nothing the rest of the day.

I have Wheaties with skim milk and a 1/2 packet of Equal, a piece of 7 grain bread with a tbsp of low fat/low sodium pb on it and a piece of fruit.

Sometimes I add a little granola to the top of my cereal.

That pretty much fills me up...nowadays

Today it was organic rolled oats with some boiling water, 1/4 cup raw walnuts and 1 teaspoon raw honey and 16 oz cold filtered water.

Yesterday I made a nice omelet with egg substitute, sauteed shi-take mushrooms, fresh garlic, artichoke tapenade with key lime and topped with feta. Oh yeah, 20 oz water with 2 Tbsp of muscadine grape skin powder.

LatelLately my sugars have dropped alot so I can have some different foods. This morning I had a whole wheat flatbread.....with peanut butter slathered on one side and a very thin layer of honey on the other side....then a small banana whole laid across it.........roll it up and it is a yummy filling breakfast with carbs, protein and fruit. The honey I should likely have skipped but it was only a little and my sugars are fine right now! YUMMY AND FAST!!:D [/COLOR]

Hello Mike,

I'm new to the forum but I have type 1 diabetes. What is your blood sugar level two hours after eating your breakfast?

Shelly

Usually one of the following:

- South Beach high protein bar, (I like the Cinnamon Raisin)
- 1 slice Brownberry Carb Control bread toasted with 1 tbsp. peanut butter
- Atkins Caramel Double Chocolate Crunch bar
- low carb tortilla with 2 slices smoked ham lunchmeat & 1 oz. cheese
- 1/2 cup cottage cheese

Weekends: Egg or eggbeater omelette with ham, cheese, green pepper, & onion OR Ham egg and cheese sandwich

Breakfast is definitely the hardest meal to control for BG rise. All these test well for me.

I use Symlin and I never spike when I eat 1 cup of Cheerios in 1 cup of 1% milk. Same thing almost every day while I'm dieting. Twice a month, I'll go crazy and have a bacon and cheese omelette with wheat toast.

Same here. Why is that? I usually have to give a 7:1 ratio at breakfast, and a 17:1 at lunch but if I skip breakfast, I have to use my b-fast bolus at lunch time.

I usually eat an english muffin with a bit of PB and J, and a glass of skim milk.

I'm a flax junky so whatever I have will include either a slice of microwave flax bread or a couple tablespoons of flax meal mixed in with it.
Most of the time it's a couple eggs fried in olive oil and covered with red pepper. Sometimes a cup of low carb yogurt with the flax mixed in.

3/4 cup Special K Protein Plus, 1/2 small banana, some berries (raspberries, blueberries or blackberries), and soy milk. Every single day, unless I'm traveling, in which case it's eggs and as much pork (bacon, sausage, ham) as I can stuff in my face without needing to keep a cardiologist on speaker phone while I eat it. Fortunately, I don't travel all that much . . .

My after breakfast readings have been way too high all the time, so I'm still working out what works best for me.

So far, eating a toasted egg and cheese sandwich on light bread has been easy on me. (I think anything with eggs might do, so long as the carb count is not high!) I have it with coffe. :)

hey silverfrost - why not cut the amount of bread you eat in half and see what that does to your numbers.

a worthy experiment i think.

Hi,

I've had a hard time finding cereals that are diabetes friendly yet still tasty (but in general I don't like cereals). At one point I found a tasty one but it had too much carbs.

Can you, pls, provide recommendations to try? How much is a reasonable portion and should I use no-fat milk or something else?

Thanks.

I liked Porridge than the other cereals because it is a slow release energy that keeps me happy till lunch. :D
I have had experienced other cereals and the energy is there for a short period and that's all. So It's all over buy the shouting say 10:00AM :( So it's porridge for me. :)
