It would be a good idea to whare some sort id ID to say that you are a diabetic. :)

I don't know of that one but I too get sluggish and drunk like and lethargic when I am low but to me low is 2.0 / 36 and I have had diabetes for 36 years. Are you a type 1?:questionm

What type of meds are you taking that cause the hypos?

Why do I think you are an extreme low-carber? What's your diet?
sweetblood

no, i am NOT a low carber by any means...im addicted to carbs...
i take no meds that could cause the hypos...no diabetes meds either
so why would i have hypos in first place/?? doesnt make sense at all

How about this -
When was the last time you had a hypo?
What did you eat that day?
What were you doing when you had the low?
As far as I know anyone can have a low in the right situation.
Being active - nothing in your stomach/ not eating properly.

I never have fasting bg above 130, never. Two readings of fbg above 126 is an indicator of diabetes. Your sig says T2 back in 2005 but now you're pre-D? You have hypos but no meds?
If you're not seeing an endo I think you should IMHO. Your natural insulin production/utilization seems to be out of whack, but I'm not a doc.

i had dr say i was diabetic, but when i went to endo, i had had 2-3 weeks of perfectly normal bgs on meter no matter what i ate. so he said i didnt have diabetes.
i get periods where bg is mostly normal then boom, it goes outta whack again.
not sure whats really goin on.
maybe my pancreas is working some of the time...is that common b4 full blown diabetes??
i take NO oral hypoglycemics...on other meds but they have never caused hypos, imo
just dont know what to make of this

Found this interesting article while looking up hypoglycemia:
"Who is at risk for hypoglycemia?
While patients who do not have any metabolic problems can complain of symptoms suggestive of low blood sugar, true hypoglycemia usually occurs in patients being treated for diabetes (type 1 and type 2). Patients with pre-diabetes who have insulin resistance can also have low sugars on occasion if their high circulating insulin levels are further challenged by a prolonged period of fasting."
I would make sure to carry some hard candies with me at all times so that when you feel yourself going low, you can treat it before it becomes a problem.
My sister (not a diabetic) has problems going low if she doesn't eat regularly. She eats several small meals a day to help with this on the advice of her doctor. He also told here that this could be a precursor to T2 diabetes, so she keeps regular checks on her blood sugars and A1c. Her last A1C was 4.5. She's quite overweight, but has never been troubled (yet) by elevated blood sugars.
Have you had a glucose tolerance test?

I don't have a clue, but you are interesting. It's like your pancreas has a gyro in it.

forgive my ignorance but what do you mean by that, the gyro??

sweetblood, just out of interest, do you have insulin resistance?
do your hypos happen within a certain time frame?

i dont know if i have insulin resistence...what test would i need to determine that??
hypos can happen at any given time...no particular pattern

Hello sweetblood, sorry you get such bad hypos like that. :(

I think you can get a test for insulin levels and/or c-peptide (I could be wrong?). My Grandma has recently been diagnosed with pre-diabetes, her fasting insulin level (not sure re: c-peptide) is high & her dr said she is insulin resistant.
Btw, she also gets hypos after eating high GI/high carb meals which I think is called reactive hypoglycemia.

Congratulations, you have reactive hypoglycemia.
Basically what happens is you eat carbs, and since you are insulin resistance your blood sugar goes up. Pancreas sees that your bs is going up and says, "Oh shoot, need to fix this," so it pumps out a ton of insulin. But you're resistant, so it doesn't work right away. "Oh man, this is bad" thinketh the pancreas. And it does what it does and makes more insulin. All of a sudden, you aren't THAT insulin resistance and *CRASH* goes your bs, bottoming out.
It makes perfect sense in your situation.
Solution?
Cut back on carbs, especially simple carbs. Eat 6x a day, complex carbs, fats, and proteins.
