I'm doing a basal test today and looking for some input as to whether I should keep going (and/or anything else).

Looks like my liver kicked in at 8:00 and has been shooting me higher ever since.

That 20.0 last night was SOOOO frustrating. I was low ALL evening...just couldn't get it to go up. I kept treating it with a little at a time, and then even WITHOUT going beserk and eating WAY too much, it ended up going WAY too high once it started going up. GAH!

Anyway, realizing that today was not ideal for basal testing b/c of that 20.0, I still decided to do it.

The other complicating factor is that this week is my TOTM....so my bloodsugars are normally lower during this time. I want to basal test anyway, though, because I want to see if I need to change my basals during that week every month or whether it'll just be a bolus issue.

Anyway.....it's looking weird so far. I'm thinking of skipping lunch too and just going all afternoon (even though I'll feel like a$$ doing it). At what point do you think I should cut it off? I mean, I know the thing about if it goes up/down more than 1.7 you're done, but won't I still be able to get information from doing an afternoon basal test? If I eat something now and bolus I won't be able to start an afternoon test until 2:30....and I don't want to do that.

Thoughts?

Personally, I would keep basal testing until I got too high (12-13ish)

So, keep going. I'm sure there is an argument that "not eating so long kicks in the XBGHTY enzymes that make your brain think it's eaten," yadda yadda yadda, but I keep things simple and just would keep going, lol.

I quit. I'm eating lunch. I just kept going up.

Are you going to increase your late morning basal then?

Not unless I can replicate those results. I don't trust all the unusual circumstances behind that test.

When you identify a pattern of rising or falling bg out of range, then make a basal adjustment approx. 1.5 hours before it happens. Keep doing this with future basal test results and soon your pump will be tuned. It can be a lot of work initially, but it's well worth it, IMO. Good luck...
