hi forum people!!
i want to thank you all for sharing all your knowledge and experiences...i have learned so much on this forum...i went to a class by my hmo and didn't learn anything new....i am sure if i had only gone to that i would not have received such improvement in my numbers (i sure would be eating a ton more of carbs!!)....when diagnosed i was a 13.6 and at 4 months i was a 6.4.....the caring and support here is just amazing.....i am so glad i found you all....those who take the time to give positive feed back to others have lifted me up along the way.....thank you...thank you ...thank you....and princess linda...bless you : )

I feel I must chime in here, I just got home from a diabetes class given by the VA. After about 10 minutes into the class I realized that I had already learned all that they were going teach me. I got it here or from resources that I got from here.
Thanks for the info.

hi waqar,
the most important thing i did was come here every day and read the information presented here....i had been really resistant to the idea of testing so often (in the beginning)...as my dr. had suggested 1x a day....when i tested more frequently i learned what foods i should limit of stay away from....there are so many tips to be found here....i avoid white bread, pasta and potatoes....i have learned to like dark chocolate and savor just a bit.....i try and eat low carb....i walk and ride an exercise bike....i go out to eat a lot with friends and i always try and eat low carb when out....for example in calif they have a chinese food chain panda express...i never knew you could order the three item special with out rice or chow mein (lol but you can!!)...i find i do really well with chinese avoiding dumplings, breaded and fried, rice, noodles and sweet sauces....if i want a burger i might get a patty melt (which is on rye bread) and only eat the bread on one half...and eat salads....there are lots of microwave pre-cooked meat dishes in the meat depts of the grocery...like chicken, beef and pork that are great for a quick fix with a salad or veggies....i might brown hamberger meat and use lowery's taco mix, or low carb marinara sauce with cheese for dinner....there are great snack ideas on here...i like the one minute chocolate cake....so there are ways to have a treat that doesn't blow it....i do take the meds the dr. suggested...but keep coming here...it keeps me inspired and gives a community of people that understand....i don't make a big deal about my food choices...i don't really talk about diabetes...for me i share that on an if i feel they need to know basis....i let people who question a food choice know i am trying to eat low carb and high fiber....no one has ever pressed further....i hope this helps...you can do it!!
if you have any more questions...or i can be of any help...please let me know!!
but come here often....that is my best suggestion....you will learn so very much....the people are kind and generous with their knowledge and experience....and some posts will give you a daily smile....
so welcome and good luck on your journey to better health!!
keep us posted!
