View Full Version : need to get motivated
I love to exercice and I try to do something everyday! For the first time in many years I have problems getting motivated...even for a walk! I feel tired all the time!:(
I guess I'm looking for people who can cheer me up so I would get moving...and some other people might need it too!

It could be something that's a bit transient. We're all prone to periods where motivation wanes and I know this time of year can be tough on me at times as the daylight hours dwindle.
Still, I will say one of the best things I've done the past couple of years which has helped my wintertime mood immensely is getting and staying active as much as possible. That's had a very real effect.
Perhaps what you've been doing for activity has hit a sort of routine or staleness. Try changing it up maybe. Walk different routes or at different times and see the differences. Good exercise not only engages the body, but engages the mind and I think sometimes it's good to shake up the routine so the mind has something new to mull over.

The answer lies within.
Depending on external sources of motivation is a recipe for failure. Why should anyone care about us more than we care about ourselves?
There is a spark in you. A fire if you build it. It hasn't gone out - you've just lost track of it. Look for it, find it, kindle it, feed it, revel in it, bask in it, let is shine on all those around you!
You get but one life. It's yours to do with as you please. Time is a measured commodity - it is so precious. Suck all the juice out of this life that you possibly can - while you can.
Your body was designed to be used. Use it like you mean it and it will reward you with health and vigor. You know that exercise increases your energy level right? So if you have no energy it's because you're not exercising enough. You don't need energy to start exercising - you need to start exercising so you have more energy.
I hope this helps a little.

I'm with you on this one! I just moved and am out of my walking routine...I can find 100 errands to to do before I get my fanny out the door for a 3 mile walk...or even a 1 mile walk.
Yesterday I had lunch and decided to walk a few downtown blocks...I stopped in 3 stores! Then I had to go to the bathroom...so I drove home!...excuses!

Lack of motivation to do something you love, and feeling tired all the time can be signs of depression. Add the winter-blues on top of that,......maybe it's not depression in your case, but it's something to think about. Having said that though, I think everyone goes through stages of not wanting to exercise. I haven't done much all Summer, but I'm trying to get back into the exercise routine this Fall. Good luck! (with the move too!:))

I wish I had the answer... if someone finds it please send it my way too.
I used to be very athletic, sigh.
It always feels good to know we're not the only ones to go through things like that!
I asked myself if it was depression, but I'm wondering: can we be half-depressed? I mean I don't have a lot of energy these days, but my mood is wonderful. I'm all happy and smily all the time!:)
I'm trying to walk as much as I can! But moving away is a good thing. I'll get an all new exercise routines and I have some friends who would like to join me! I just hope my husband won't work as hard as he is now!
I forgot to say: I hope everybody is doing and exercising well!;)

Hi Dominique!
Motivation has so many factors. What works for me is "routine" in that I have a schedule for daily exercise. Often I just don't feel "in the mood" but once I get going it's okay. Even my indoor training sessions (which I dread) always turn out okay it just has to be part of that daily routine.
Of course, if I don't exercise for more than two days it shows up in my BG readings and that is a motivator.

When I go through periods where motivation just isn't there in the quantity I'd like (and I'm kind of going through one of those periods now), there are a few things I try to do:
1. I remind myself that I always feel better after I exercise. Always. So while some days it might seem like the hardest thing in the world to get my butt out of my chair, I know that after I exercise I won't remember what the big deal was about. At least until the next day . . .
2. If I'm really resisting, I tell myself that doing something is better than doing nothing, so it's OK if I cut back on what I usually would do. So if my typical goal would be to jog for 45 minutes or an hour, I'll take a 25-30 minute walk and say that's fine for today.
3. If I really, truly, just can't stand the idea of putting on the gym shoes, then OK, I won't. But I give myself a deadline: it's OK if I don't exercise today, or tomorrow, but I absolutely must do something -- anything -- two days (or whenever) from now. Usually if I give myself a break of a couple of days (or three), that's all I need to get back on track.
But the main thing to remember is to mix it up, move around (however you decide to do that), and never forget that it really does make you feel better.

I've had the luxury of running this past week with a weapons specialist that was in the Special Forces. I haven't ran or kept at it in over a year, and the same for him.
I had an extremely bad low yesterday morning, I can't figure out if I subconsciously got up and took some insulin or if it was due to the physical routine we are doing together, because I'm usually around 200 in the mornings. My muscles completely failed on me, and I had to literally crawl to the fridge (felt like it took an hour), and I tried to open a 2 liter of coke, couldnt use my muscles, so I threw that down and managed to get a can of soda open. I was trying to chug it but my reaction time to swallowing was so delayed i kept choking and spitting most of it back up. I managed to crawl (back) to my room and call my girlfriend (which took forever to punch the correct keys in), and couldnt get my voice to muster up any "oomph", so i sounded like a little girl. But she got the paramedics and police department to come over and one of the officers was able to find my kit and squirt the glucose frosting/cream in my mouth. I ate all that, along with that coke i drank AND drank a cup of orange juice with the paramedics there. My number was 43 when they checked it (after i had all that), and it kept going down! They checked it three times in a ten minute period before it started going back up. So I had to have given myself a shot in a sleep walk or something, which scares the **** out of me.
Was easily the worst low I've ever been awake for. I've passed out when I worked at the Police Department full time and they said I was cussing and fighting with three of the other officers when they tried to stick me with an IV in my arm. I wasn't "aware" during that experience, but this one was absolutely horrible. I couldn't walk or focus on anything, but I KNEW I had to get some sugar in me. I thought some organ failed on me or something, because I had never felt like that before, no use of my muscles in my legs, and I couldn't feel anything when I was pulling myself around by my arms.
Such a weird experience. On the upside, its gotten my family doctor to fax my medical records over to the endocrinologist i want to start seeing (to get a pump). I've been trying to get him to fax my records for over a month after signing a release and they kept giving me the run around.
I don't ever want to experience that again. Ugh.
Hope you're feeling better schwaBAM!
