I'm FINALLY getting my pump training!! YAY! :D (Had my pump since June and have been trying since then to get ahold of the trainer they assigned me with, never getting a responce... I finally called minimed to see what was up and got a call the next day from a trainer in BC who is coming to Alberta to train me and some others who couldn't get ahold of this lady).... ANYWHO, a question for all who have the 722 or 522.. I have heard about an online training program you can go through. Does anyone have a link to that? I couldn't find it anywhere, and I would like to be pas prepaired ahead of time as I can be. Thanks ahead for the help. I can't wait to get started on the pump!!!

I learned how to use my pump by reading the book. The doctor was NOT HAPPY. He was so pissed, they made me come into the office so I could get chewed out. I'll be finding a new doctor.

It's a long story I just got frustrated and starting reading the book and realized this was not rocket science.

My doctor has been treating me since April and my AIC is not better than 7.4%, I'll give you an example of treatment method -
Byetta 3 times a day (crazy only suppossed to be taken twice!!!), novolog before meals and levmir and night - all totally off label stuff that did not work! (Byetta is not FDA approved to be used with insulin)

I even figured out my basil and everything. I'm just smart and I know my body and how I react to things. Never had a bad hypo or passed out or anythink, I keep a close watch.

THe doctor was more concerned about him loosing his license if I were to crash my car and kill myself or someone else. And I can understand that.

It probably was not the safest thing to do - and I would not reccommend it to anyone else. Do as I say not as I do haha.

I know I'm going to get lectured so bring it on! What can I say - diabetes has made me a little crazy. I know what I did was stupid, but I am pumping and happy now :)

Before I got my pump, I read Pumping Insulin by John Walsh from cover to cover. My pump trainer was happy that I had done that. I still waited for my training appt though.

I also learned how to use my pump by reading the manual - before I met with the pump trainer/nurse. I had a really good grasp on the vocabulary and functions which made my appointment with the trainer so much easier right from the start.

I brought my Cozmo manual in to my doctor, with my calculations in pencil... she went over them, said they looked good, but to tweak it all down by 10%. I went home, did just that, hooked up.

The trainer came 3 weeks later. There's no way I would have waited that long. My doctor is such an enabler. :D

I waited for a trainer with my first pump. I only had to wait a week and the whole process escaped me. I actually didn't try to learn ahead of time except for the video that came with my pump. My second pump??? I was a bit more adventursome and did most of it by myself.

I learned a little from the book, a little from Pumping Insulin book and a little more from DF, my trainer was very pleased that I was knowledgable when she arrived and it did not take long to get my hooked up and going.

I just ordered that book online, after hearing so much about it on this site I figured it will probably come in handy. It should be here about a week before my training so I should be able to get a good start on it.
