This is a question for people in Canada....

I was wondering where everyone gets their supplies from. With my MDI I just go to a local grocery store to pick everything up, but they don't offer pump supplies. Do I have to order them online? Should I order them before my trainer comes?

I've been ordering them through my local Shoppers Drug Mart. They don't get them in for anyone but me, so they had to get set up and figure out how to do the ordering and stuff - it's new for them. I have to phone a day in advance and then they get them from a local "warehouse" I guess. Minimed stocks supplies somewhere in my city, so it doesn't take long to get them.

If I were you, I'd phone a few of your local pharmacies and just talk to them about options. Even if they don't do it already, they might be willing to start. It saves you the shipping and handling that the pump company charges (which I think is $20 or $25 per order with Minimed).

Good luck!

We use Diabetes Depot -- a pharmacy specializing in diabetes and pump supplies and offering internet ordering. www.diabetesdepot.ca

Free shipping by courier for orders over I think $180 (?) -- basically the cost of one box of infusion sets and one box of cartridges. We live fairly close by, but get the order at our door within two days. Carries all major brands in stock. Prices are reasonable. The service has been fantastic.

I do use the local pharmacy for insulin, strips, etc. but this place is great for pump supplies.

Also, talk to your trainer about what they will supply you to start. We had a kit with everything we needed including a few different sets to try. You might not need to pre-order anything.

In Manitoba you can order your supplies thru any pharmacy or you can order thru the Minimed online store or phone order desk and send a copy of the invoice to Manitoba pharmacare to have the total included towards your deductible or for reimbursement if you have already met your deductible.
The Minimed online store does not charge for delivery as of some date in Sept.

Darlene, are infusion sets and reservoirs covered by Manitoba Health? My pharmacare receipts all say "Not Eligible" on them. I've just been putting them through my insurance through work.

Yes, infusion sets and reservoirs are covered by Manitoba Pharmacare. Your pharmacy has made a mistake. You can call the Pharmacare line to check, but they have been paying for mine since I met my deductible.

One other thing, minimed online offers a discount if you sign up for automatic shipments. I think it's 10% off on a 6 month contract or 15% off on a 1 year contract.
