so what happens with the CBGM when you need to take a shower?

I have the Minimed 722 pump and hopefully will soon have the paradigm CBGM to complement it....

what happens when you need to take a shower? Currently I disconnect my pump for the shower then recconect. What happens with the CBGM... do you need to recalibrate it with a finger stick after? Can someone explain?

Hi Kevin. The Sensor and transmitter of the CGMS stays connected. All the time. Well that's how it worked when I last used it but maybe it has changed since? I'm also on the 722 and used the transmitter twice for monitoring.

Once the transmitter is plugged into the sensor, it's waterproof. Keep in mind however, that each component on it's own is NOT waterproof, so don't take a shower or anything when you're in your "5 minute transmitter warm up" period.

I usually keep mine covered with tegaderm.

Just a side note, CBGM is a misnomer and one that annoys me. I'm assuming you're using that to stand for "Continuous Bloog Glucose Monitor." That's not accurate as it measures interstitial fluid, not blood. I bring it up, because the difference can be substantial between the 2 readings. CGMS is a more accurate term.

The sensor has to be in your skin for 5 minutes before you can connect the transmitter.

You're good in the shower....I use iv 3000 and keep it covered at all times just to make sure it can't get ripped off etc.

What that means is don't take a shower or get it wet if the two pieces (sensor and transmitter) are seperated, like the 5 minutes you are supposed to wait to connect the transmitter to the sensor after you insert the sensor. Another example of this would be don't disconnect the transmitter to charge it, then go take a shower while it is charging.

When they are connected though, like they have to be to actually use it, they're totally waterproof.
