I see lots of people talk about the pump infusion sets and Humalog U-100 hardening skin to the point it's no good to use for pumping. I rotate around my abdoman - but have 40 more years of this I guess. My legs are skinny. My trainer never talked about putting infusion sets anywhere else. For those who have been pumping for years, have you had any problems just using your stomach?

I keep hearing all these horror stories about hypertrophy and buildups under the skin in areas where you pump Humalog U-100 .... I do the standard rotation upper right abdomen, lower right abdomen, lower left abdomen, upper right abdomen - and never directly back in the same spot where I see I put the infusion set in before.

I only use the lower abdomen and have had NO problems. Very rarely do I use the upper abs.

So far I have used my lower abdomen mostly. I have used the upper a little and I have used the far back sides on right and left. Most of the time I get good absorption in those areas. I do get a few sections that will reject the sight. But I have build up from injections for many years as well. I just avoid the areas that I have had difficulty with. It seems to work out well for me so far.

I use lower abdomen, thighs and occassionally upper butt (not where you sit) so far no problems and easy heal time. :D

Same with me Bel.
And If I can ask a question...why would there be a problem with Humalog and not other insulins?

You can put infusion sites in the upper buttocks area?

My trainer didn't tell me that. Just the upper legs, abdomen, and the fatty part of your upper arms. I tried the far left and right sides but those hurt (muscles) and bled a little during cannula removal. Too skinny for the arms and legs. Now I wish I had love handles ....

Of course, now my next question is how and where on your backside. And how to remove the cannula after 3 days.

I tried running the cannula only 2 days instead of 3 - didn't make much difference about the tiny bumps. I guess my skin just doesn't like to be punctured. That's why I worry about running out of spots on my abdomen even when rotating. I wish I knew where all the nerve endings where - every once in awhile I hit one of those and it backs me up against the wall. A 36 year old guy who cries - what a wimp I am, I know. Guess I'm not the metal to be a Marine.

just a tthought...maybe your problem is that your allergic to the tape that your using. I know of a person that is and she has to use some special ointment.
