I went to my new endo today for my first visit. I've met a lot of doctors in my time but this guy and his crew are a class act and beat them all bar none!
My last endo put me on Altace and it made feel sick all the time but wanted me to keep taking it. The new endo thought lisinopril would lower my BP which was high 144/88 and take care of my kidney issue. He also said this should take care of the pins and needles in my right foot. Also he said it shouldn't make me feel sick. YAY He also told me this med should also help with the thumping heartbeat I've had.
He gave me a prescription for Chantix to stop smoking. Something I really have to do. He didn't ask if I wanted to. I told him I HAD to!
Everything he said impressed me. He told me that FIRST we will look at everything every which way and stop the progression of any complications and once we have that we will move into prevention mode to prevent any further damage.
Then he said if I ever felt he was not listening to what I said, didn't feel like he was spending enough time with me or just rushing through it I was granted permission to smack him upside the head and tell him to wake up.
He has his own "in house" pump instructor and after downloading all the pump information he said that he could see I was perfect during the day but from 11pm to 9am I was having issues so he set me up an appointment to get that corrected.
He also has a "in house" nutrionalist so I have an appointment with her on how do deal with different foods and how slow or fast they affect my BS levels and how best to bolus for them.
He also wants me to fast from 8pm to 8am to see what my night time BS levels are if I don't eat. (I always eat at 11pm before I go to bed)
Now here is where it gets really great. He wants to get me on a CGMS. I told him at this timemy insurance won't cover it. He said SURE they will. I said "lol" no they won't. He said yes they will and I'll tell you why. I've told your insurance company that if they didn't cover them that I would prescribe so many test strips to all my clients who are insured by you that the costs will far exceed the costs of the CGMS and supplies. AND he said in the off chance they wouldn't pay for them he'd take care of it.
I was there for two hours. Only waited 10 minutes till I was seen by someone
How is THAT for endo service!!!!

My second appointment was with my opthomologist. The blurred vision in my left eye is not caused by anything diabetes related and he's not sure it will ever get better and there isn't much he can do. The blood vessel that allows blood to drain out of the retina is blocked so has swelled my retina causing the blurred vision. He did say there was a shot that he could give me but the shot would go into my actual eye and he cannot say once the swelling did go down if my vision would be any better. It could get better, stay the same or get worse.
Now do you understand why I am bummed?

Sounds like you've found yourself a very good endo, Alaska. I'm taking Chantix and it works very well as long as you put your mind to it and as long as you're not out with friends that smoke and say "I'll have just one"! I know several people, including my brother-in-law, who stopped smoking the first week they started on the Chantix. I hope it works for you too!

Sorry your eye appointment didn't go as well.

wow! what a great Dr... Alsaka....cold in winter, right? hmmm....
on the plus side, great scenery, nice people and a good endo....hmm... what to do what to do......

Sorry about your eye though Alaska, I had holes drilled in my iris by a laser, in both eyes, to prevent acute angle closure. While the thought of it was awful, in reality it was not painful.. Hope you get some improvement one way or another...

YaY Alaska!!! :five:

Now, why can't ALL doctors be like that? He's someone who is a doctor, because he truly cares about peoples health! So rare to find these days!

Bummer on the eye deal! :0( Hopefully it can be fixed!!

I have emailed my old opthomologists office hoping I could talk to my old doc whom I trust without a doubt with my eyes to see if I could possibly talk to him about my retinal vein occlusion. And if I have to I'll fly down to see him.

My new endo called me Friday afternoon. My A1C was 7.8 which was very disappointing. We discussed why it was happening and both agreed. My blood cell counts were all good but I am spilling protien from the kidneys. I was wrong on my BP it actually 140/80 and though he said it wasn't terrible he did say it was a bit high. He asked me how my BP meds were treating me and did I have any side affects and I told him I wouldn't have those meds for another two weeks. He said.say what?? my intern didn't give you a months supply of samples?...NO he didn't,........ well that just will not do, where do you work? ........So I told him and he said he was leaving the office and would bring over the meds for me to take. I almost fell out of my chair. A doctor coming to my work to drop me off free meds.
When he got there he didn't know I worked for a motorcycle/atv/snowmachine dealership. He was in hog heaven since he is big into those toys as well as hunting. We talked for about a half hour about diabetes and the cool stuff I can help him with on his toys. His wife called while he was there and she told him not to bring any new quads home......lol
He told me he'd have me within the right numbers across the board in 3 to 6 months.
I just love this guy

what a dream doctor.....next time you see him, pinch him to make sure he's real, Alaska..hahahaha.
Cool for you and him as you obviously have all the neat boy toys he likes play with... I think you will both benefit from the relationship...I am really glad you have met him, it will be a great reassurance to you to have him in your corner.

Dude, I'm moving to Alaska. Got me a bed ready? I'm not that tall so I can sleep on a loveseat or sofa if need be. ;)

Seriously though, I think it's awesome that you have found an endo that you like and listens to what you have to say.

Now, the eye situation. Talk to your old optho and see if anything can be done. In my "off" time, I'll do some online research to see if there is anything that can be done.

:) :)

Well the majority of opthomoligists are at a convention in New Orleans and should be back this week so I'll probably talk to him then.
I'm just so jazzed about finding a great doctor. It gives me a new hope I haven't had in a long long time.

Well, just let me know if there is anything I can do to help. You were there for me when I first came here 3 years ago and I'm here for you. :)
I'm glad that you have been given that hope back. :)
