View Full Version : Motorcycles and Low BS make bad combo

During the summer my dad and I went out for a motorcycle ride. We hit up some back-roads and were having a blast. Until I feel like I'm flying on my motorcycle! I continuted doing 70mph thinking it would pass but that I felt even more of the scary sensation lurking inside of me. I start to honk at my dad and I pull over right away. Check my sugar... hmmm... a 42... ****! Its a good thing I had my glucose tabs on me. Moral of my experience: Check your sugar before you drive,ride, operate, or go out, might just save your life!

I've had a similr experience and luckily never came off - but close! We were coming to the end of our ride and I took a sharp corner. But I just couldnt for the life of me get my bike to turn - it just wouldnt budge. I went up onto the sidewalk and down again with my front wheel and eventually came to a stop next to the road. Tested - LO. My dad who was behind me said I didnt go into the corner as I should have, I just turned too late!

I was riding bikes well before I ever became a diabetic. When I did become a diabetic at 12 I told my parents even then that diabetes wouldn't stop me from riding and it never has.
I always carry 2 candy bars on me when ever I ride and the groupI ride with knows if it's a long ride I need to stop and get a bite to eat.
While I was roadracing I was always on top of my BS before I went out on the track and was full of gatorade :D

Vikes are just having a terrible time... 34-0 against the Packers! Although Farve is an excellent QB.. our star, Adrian Peterson hurts his knee so we basically have no-body. I wouldnt be suprised if we lost to such teams as the browns.

I ride motocross and have had issues with low BS. I always test before and adjust before getting out on the track. Not only is low BS dangerous for the diabetic but for all on the track/road etc...we all know this though.

This is where a CGMS would be extremely handy.

Whats a CGMS? Maybe I'm just not up with the diabetic lingo yet..

Constant Glucose Monitoring System, ie; The Guardian RT.

The problem is they have a large calibration time. I just want to use a CGMS in certain situations, like long rides, long runs/bike rides, times where testing has to make you take a break from what you are doing.
