Well, I am into the fourth week and I have been maintaining my BS in the 101-140 range. I am running low on supplies and I have to contact my Doc. for some new strips and glyburide. The pills seem to doing what they are supposed to be doing.

I have heard this scenario from a few people let me know your opinions on this .

I have been told that my BS has been so high for so long that when my BS is first normal I will feel kind of "crappy" for a while until I get used to the "right" BS level is this true or false? Why I ask this question is because I just got some sort of stomache virus and I feel like ****, (The whole family has or had this virus)
and there is 6 of us here. Thank you all very much I will talk with you all later.

Yep, it's true. You can also have symptoms of low b/s when yours drops rapidly. It looks like you're doing great, and I hope you and your family get over that virus real soon.

Unfortunately it is my expereince that it is true. The good news is that it will not last for longer than about a week, if you keep your blood sugars in the target range- although it is very tempting to let them rise slightly when you know you are going to feel better. Believe me, it is worth it in the long term!!!

I don't think this will necessarily have made you more suseptable to the stomach virus, however, I think that was something you were destined for. If you are vomiting remember to check for ketones. Also, you MUST continue to take your meds and try to take in the number of carbs you would normally have. Also try for as much water as possible. I know this is just another thing to worry about, but it's really important to avoid ketoacidosis if you can.

Get well soon

"but it's really important to avoid ketoacidosis"

What is that? and how can I check that? Is that another word for dehydration? That is the first time I have heard that symptom. I guess I got to feel a little under the weather for a little while :( But
as you say it is just temporary I look forward to feeling "normal: (what the heck is "normal" Ha Ha Ha.

I know a girl who keeps her blood sugar above 200 and says she feels bad if it is lower than that, but I don't have any experience with it so I don't know.

Ketoacidosis is what occurs when your blood sugar is dangerously high. Usually you'd want to ck your urine for ketones when you're over 200/240 (I'm not completely up to speed on the exact level). There's a product called Ketostix to do this with. If you're sick then your b/s will most likely be high for a bit. Ck it frequently and if you do have ketones and/or you see your b/s rising steadily you should call your doc asap. Ketoacidosis can result in coma and or death, but if you're cking regularly you should be able to head it off before it gets that far.

You can check for it by a urine test. It is basically a vicious circle where the blood becomes more acidic due to the fact that you are getting too much energy from fat as you cannot metabolise glucose. It's vicious, cos ketones make you vomit, and vomiting makes you ketotic. Seeing as you are still fit to use the computer, it's not likely that you are ketotic.

Hello
Also a good sign of Ketenes in your system is the aroma of fruit flavored Certs. This fruity aroma will be dominant in your breath no matter how bad it is otherwise. If you or a friend smells this you are in a good deal of danger and need insulin immediately.
I just wanted to let you know of another sign of ketenes and how to identify it.
I have been to DKA several times in my youth. It is not fun.
Take care
