hello everyone, i'd like to give myself a shot of novolin nph in the morning, i now only inject novolin nph at bedtime my overnite injection. during the day i inject novorapid 3 times breakfast lunch and dinner time. if i was to give myself a shot of nph at breakfast time would i still inject the normal novorapid shot as well.

You are currently compensating for the lack of a basal insulin by taking more Novarapid. You would take less Novarapid if you took NPH. How much less and when are the big questions.

Bear in mind that NPH peaks at 6 - 10 hours after injecting it. So a lunchtime shot will peak after your evening meal. If your blood glucose readings in the morning are OK, don't change the evening NPH shot. And you won't need to change the pre-breakfast Novorapid shot either. Start off with a couple of units of NPH in the morning and see what happens. Increase the dosage gradually, one unit at a time. Some people, myself included, are sensitive to insulin in the afternoon. So you have to watch out for low blood sugars before dinner. If this happens, you can try shifting the morning NPH shot to lunchtime. It would shift the downward pressure on blood glucose from the afternoon to after dinner, which is where you seem to be having the biggest problem.

As xMenace points out, a second shot of NPH will mean that you don't need to inject as much Novorapid before lunch and dinner. So you will need to do a lot of testing to find a new balance. Good luck. :)
