Expiration date on Minimed Supplies

I am getting my minimed pump next month and recieved some old supplies that someone ended up not using. My question is the expiration date on the infusion sets and reservoir says 2004-09, does this mean years or month 09 of 2004 or is it 2004-2009?? Does the expiration date on these even matter they are all sealed and have been in the original boxes.

I would guess that the date is for 2004 ti 2009 and they are sealed so what is the difference. I would use them after the date

I don't use a pump but I do think the expiration date on such things is kind of strange. The lancets I use now have an expiration date on them. What does that mean? Are they just going to turn to dust on that date or something like that???
