OK, as I posted, Eri was in ICU w/ DKA this past week.
Well, since she's been home, her bgl's have been dropping more and more...she was 47mg/dL when she woke up this morning.(she had about 5 oz of oj and some oatmeal and went up to 98). At least she notices her lows when she sleeps now...she gets a numb tongue and wakes up w/ the shakes. She's been hovering around the 60's and 70's, went up to 300 and then drops to around 50.
What is up with all that? We haven't changed a thing...same dosage of lantus(34units, which the ICU docs and nurses thought was too much for someone her age and size) and her 1:15 carb ratio and 1unit of novolog for every 30 over 120.
They say insulin resistance, but I just can't seem to understand it.

Also, her dad, who was dx'd as a T2 after his quad bypass a few months ago, his bgl's have now been creeping up to the 300's(he only takes 1000mg's of metformin a day). The appt. w/ the endo up here wasn't until March, so I'm sure he'll see one in FL b/f then. I know my dad is a T2, on 2000mg of metformin a day plus 50 units of lantus at night.

I don't know, just weird, but then again, my life is weird.(but at least it's life, right?)

I feel terrible for her. I've hope for all of this to stop for so long. I wish I knew the answers but I know you do too. I hope they'll get it straightned out soon. I never had such problems growing up. I had lots of trouble with low blood sugar but none of this other stuff.

Uggggh...what a rough time for your family. My thoughts are with you--it sounds like they're both leaning on you pretty heavily right now. Be as strong as you can, but make sure you take time out for yourself if possible. Group hug from all of us.

Didn't you say she had been sick during/around all of this? I know for myself I tend to be lowish a day or so before I get sick, then high while sick, and often low again once I get over it. That's the only thing I can think of.
I hope that getting back to Florida really brings on some changes for your family!

Thanks all...

Yes, she just got over a cold, and it was today(where she is better) that her bgl's have been so low. It's driving me crazy, but we'll get through it!

I seriously think that FL is going to be great for her(and us)!...

Has she changed her activity level at all? I agree with what others posted, by sugars are higher when I'm sick. Keep good records of what she's eating and her sugars and consult with the doctor. It might just be that she needs her normal insulin doses lowered some.
It's a guessing game and frustrating. Things can go right for such a long time and then change in hormones or the unknown can cause them to go out of whack and it's tough to get a handle on it then. After 25 yrs of being diabetic, I definitely understand the frustrations of keeping blood sugars under control and the waiting on patterns for you or the doctor to decide it's time to change insulin doses. Stay strong!

Where is Eri in her menstral cycle? I drop low right before I start and stay that way for several days.

Florida now is almost 8o degrees and I wish it were colder!! Also I think that 34 units of Lantus is way too much, I'm about 185 lbs and take 20 units of Lantus at night with sliding scale Humalog.
