Hey guys, Im a type 2, well thats what Ive been told anyway. But im insulin. Humalog and the solostar pens. But Im really having some bad thoughts about using insulin.
Ive been on it for about 2 months now. But I dont feel good when Im on it. Most of the time I have this weird sensation in my neck, right around my thyroid and tonsels. Like right before you get a cold and you begin to cough. It makes me cough too until it goes away. But I never feel good. I actually felt better, beside my legs and feet hurtin me a lot, before I started getting my blood sugars down.
Whats the deal. Is there maybe something else wrong with me, or something else that is causing my BG to be high and the insulin im on is just a band aid fix that isnt really helping the true issue Im having, and thus I dont feel good? Im at a loss here and my doctor needs a little more time to assess my blood tests. I think the next time I go in, im going to have a list of questions for them.
Anyone else experience any of these symptoms. My BG levels are all over the place throughout the day to. I dont really ever level out. Its like Im fighting an up hill battle. Like something else is the issue and insulin is just a cover up, to make the tests that I do look good. Any thoughts or suggestions here will help.

It's too common. People get used to a certain level of blood sugar. When it changes they feel bad. Symptoms vary. It takes some time to get used to a new plateau. Give it a month or two.
However, there are very rare allergic reactions. Ask Dr. Google (http://www.google.com/search?q=insulin+allergies&rls=com.microsoft:*&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1)and your family doctor, but in all likelyhood, you just need to stick it out.

well, I dont level out ever. I always feel like Im on a roller coaster. Just in time for me to be at a normal BG, Im ready to eat again. I eat about every 3 hours. I have a very high metabolism. I've been sticking it out and Im gonna keep trying but, man this is frustrating.

Out of curiosity, do you take any blood pressure pills? When my endo switched me to lisinopril I felt like you, with the throat weirdness. I switched back to enalapril when that happened.
Earlier in your postings, I noted that you were told you were a type 1.5. That means that you're going to be on insulin the rest of your life. Type 1.5 is type 1, with a longer honeymoon, basically. (Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but that's my basic take on it.)
Do you have an insulin:carb ratio that you're using, or are you just taking a set amount of your Humalog during meals? When are you taking your Lantus? Some people have to split their Lantus into two doses to get proper basal coverage.

John makes an excellent point about our bodies adapting to a given level of BG. When first Dxd, I was running a pretty consistent 300-450. Orals took it down to reasonable levels very quickly (3 weeks), but like you, I felt really **** then. Took me about 4 or 5 months to adapt to the reduced levels of BG.

John has hit the nail on the head, once again. I remember feeling awful as my bg came down. My body had become used to high numbers and was reacting in a big way to the lower numbers.
I seem to recall that it took me a couple of weeks before I felt "right" again.

Hi, I having the same problem you have right now. My eye sight is real bad. My BG went from 200's to 106 in the last five days.

alright, thanks guys. Sounds like I def. need to wait it out and stick to my program.
Answer to some questions-Im using lantus at night(12) and morning(10) and then humalog during meals. Im just struggling with the feeling bad part, but I guess Im just impatient. My numbers are way down from diagnosis in August of this year. was in the 450-550bg's and now regularly in the 100's. Not very often in the low 200's.
So Im doing much better, just not feeling so hot yet.
Im not on any blood pressure medication, however I am on lycira and Symbalta for my nerves in my legs, which bother me alot. The fluctuating bg's I think are what is causing my leg pain. I notice that my blood likes to get pretty thick when I run in the upper 100's to low 200's. So I try to keep an eye on it, but my learning curve is still taking its shape. I havent quit gotten down what my percentage of insulin to carbs is yet. But hopefully I'll get it ironed out pretty soon.
My doc said not to worry about the precentage a whole lot, because I lost so much weight that as I gain it back I will change a lot and it wont be a solid constant number for a while. So they just said to play it by ear, and see how it goes for a while.
Im doing ok I guess, just gotta wait it out. Being new to this, I just havent learned to be patient and wait. Ohwell, thanks all for your comments and help!
