And I'm assuming that meal took 15 minutes or less? Food takes hours to fully digest, generally in the 2 hour range for non fat food I believe.
The 80 may have been without the food even taking effect yet and could fall in the accuracy of the BG meter.

Like Jedi said, food takes time to digest. Sometimes it can take 30 mins to an hour to even begin raising your BG.

If often takes me over an hour to see any raise, and 3 hours to peak. I have a little gastroparesis though. 1 minute ain't gonna do nothing.

I'm on MDI and bolus at least 15 minutes before I eat! Shouldn't one do that with a pump, too? It takes time for insulin to begin acting. It also takes time for food to begin to digest. As everyone above said, checking your BG a minute after you have finished eating shows nothing. Correcting with juice at that time will make you go high. Learn about how and when carbs affect your glucose levels. Dosing insulin without knowing how it works in your body is dangerous. Being on a pump does not instantly get and keep your blood glucose levels under control. You have a steep learning curve ahead. I hope you have someone knowledgeable guiding you!

i will bolus at least 15 minutes before eating. the insulin ( humalog ) is not as fast acting as you might think.

probably your blood sugar was going down quite quickly when you tested at 74. The food did not raise your blood sugar, but rather stopped the downward trend. Depending on the timing you could have gone low if the insulin started working before the food. I probably would have tested BEFORE giving the insulin, and maybe given the food another 10 minutes head start if i thought i was still dropping. But a small amount of juice is probably ok. just keep an eye on it, you don't want to end up high later.

Some of it depends on what type of carbs are eaten also. If I have a banana it takes a lot longer to raise my BS then if I had a sugared cookie or something with a high glycemic value.

Juices and Pops on the other hand - will kick in right away.

Think about it in terms of being low. It always takes at least ten minutes before carbs will begin to bring my blood sugar back up. So waiting one minute after eating is a negligible amount of time.
