Hey, im Raj. This is my first post as I only joined up today.

Been a type 1 since just before my 8th birthday and im 21 now :)

I'm on levemir at nights and novorapid for when I eat.

I had a couple of questions...

I'm not too familiar with the different terms for measuring blood sugars, like I would say a 5.4 is good but ive been reading about 51's and 118's etc. I'm assuming its just a UK/US difference kinda thing but was wondering if anyone could explain for me so I know what's going on.

Also, i'm on levemir, changed a couple of years ago from lantus, apparently the weight issue is much better with levemir, but i've not found this, in fact my appetite is more and i've put on weight but maybe that's just because i'm now at uni instead of living the home life... One other thing, when I was moved from lantus to levemir After 3 months I was told by my specialist that some comments people had was that the injection site went red and slightly bumpy afterwards. I got this when injecting into my thigh but since then i've always injected into my stomach and it's been fine. Does anyone have any info as to what that's about because its just that i'm injecting always into my belly and its just something i would rather not be concerned about.

Right, thats the end of my little essay and im sorry if I should have posted the questions elsewhere, just with it being my first post and all...:) I'd be happy to make a thread somewhere else if anyone asks.

Thanks.

Welcome aboard.

In the United States we usually measure our BGL's as mg/dL. For example, 100 mg/dL is equal to 5.56 mmol/L. If you go to the main page of the site, you will find a link on the right menu to the converters that you can use to figure out the numbers floating around here. The link to the BGL one is Blood Glucose Unit Converter (http://www.diabetesforums.com/forum/converters/bgunit.php)

Darian

The conversion factor between UK and US units is 18. Multiply by 18 to go from UK to US units. Divide to go the other way.

Never used those insulins and I've always injected into my abdomen while on MDI. Never had any issues while on MDI, except for difficult to control bg and too many daily injections. I much prefer the pump now that I've made the switch.

Good luck and welcome aboard :wavey:
