New member intro [Archive] - Diabetes Forums

Hi everybody, my name is John and I am 48 years old. I just discovered the forum and registered today. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 4 years ago. I was taking oral meds up until 4 months ago. I was taking Avandia and my numbers were great with this med. With all the hype about the risk of heart disease with Avandia, I asked my doctor to make a switch. We tried a few different oral meds, but my numbers were all over the place! He suggested insulin and metformin as an alternative and I have to say that my numbers have stabilized pretty well. I am currently using the Humalog Mix 75/25 pen - 10 units in the morning and 12 units before dinner. I also use the Levemir Flex pen, 35 units at night along with an 850 mg metformin. I try to eat correctly and don't drink alcohol. I do need to lose about 30 - 40 lbs. I'm a big guy, 6'3" 330 lbs. I'm glad I found this forum and know I will learn quite a bit and hope to contribute.

Welcome to DF, and happy new year John! Nice job on your intro. I'm curious about your progress over the past 4 years with diet improvements and fitness. How's it going? What are your plans going forward? You can certainly get help with those things here too. Either way, we're sorry you have reason to be here, but glad to have you none the less.
