Hi JBud and welcome. There is no reason your daughter will have Diabetes because you do. I am the only one of 8 children that has it, and so far, neither my children or grandchildren have it. I hope you have a new doctor.

I totally agree with Penny. I am one of 6 kids. My dad has Type 2, and so do I. None of my siblings have diabetes or any symptoms of it.
Welcome to the forums.

Welcome...it was very incorrect for your doctor to tell you that your daughter would be diabetic...find a new doctor, quickly....please see an endocrinologist if possible. They specialize in diabetes and know more than the general docs.

Agreed. There is a genetic link in diabetes, but it doesn't work like that. I was diagnosed a couple of years before my daughter was born, and I remember being concerned about this. Now I am glad that I am more aware of nutrition and how diabetes works. I can pass that along to my daughter so that she can live a healthy life right from the start, whether or not she develops diabetes later in life!
Welcome to the forums - I hope the humalog treatment is going well for you so far! I just started on Novolog myself and am still in the process of getting the dosing right. Makes for sore fingers, but you're doing the right thing by testing often.

Hi JBud, welcome! Glad you found the forum. While diabetes does tend to "run in families," there's no way your doctor can know whether or not your daughter will develop it.
The positive changes you are implementing in your own diabetes management can go a long way in making your entire family healthier. If your daughter maintains a healthy lifestyle into adulthood, she can very possibly avoid diabetes.
Bottom line, you can't spend a lot of time worrying about what "might" happen. Live your life as healthy as you can and keep your kids active and healthy...that's the best any of us can do, diabetic or not.
