My wife makes me a low carb cabbage salad with oil, vinegar and a little stevia.

It is nice and keeps my carbs low. I saw a commercially made brand and was going to buy it to save her all the work.

Just before we put it in the cart I checked that carbs which should have been very low WOW 24 g per serving. I then read the ingredients and the second one after cabbage was sugar.

I always thought that this type of item was low, go figure. I thought I would post this in case anyone else is eating this type or a creamy coleslaw and thinking that they are low.

Schlep:

Can you post up a recipe of what she does for the cabbage salad? I like cole slaw as well, but won't touch the commercial stuff.

Shredded cabbage Red and Green
Just for color as you can use all green if you like.
Small amount of shredded carrot
1/2 cup vegetable oil
4 T Vinegar
1/2 T Sugar Substitute
Salt and Pepper
Adjust vinegar to taste. You can also buy the shredded cabbage in a bag at the grocery store and use that.

You will need to experiment with the ingredients to get it how you like it.

We like our cole slaw creamy. I use Miracle Whip light, a bit of yellow mustard, vinegar and just enough sugar or spenda to take the bite out of the vinegar, we add grated carrots, finely chopped onions, and celery seed to the cabbage. Vinegar in anything, seems to reduce my BS....if I could just think of a way to drink it!

Yummy Penny.

I never heard of using vegetable oil. I had always used mayo or Miracle Whip OR yogurt.

Ask and you shall receive. I started drinking raw unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar in April 2007 for a sinus infection. It worked. Here's how to drink it and actually not gag to death. For best results, drink 3 times a day, 1/2 hour prior to meals. I personally use Bragg brand.

Mix the following in a tall cup:

1/4 teaspoon Baking Soda
2 Tablespoons ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) [That's 1/8 cup]

Be sure to chase that with about 8 ounces of water to get the aftertaste out of the way.

For more information on the benefits of ACV, go to APPLE CIDER VINEGAR CURES (http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/acvinegar.html) If you search around, you might even run across my story. :)

Please let me know if you have any other questions about drinking ACV.

Darian, I will try it! I tried to drink apple cider warmed like a tea, with a little spenda, and just could not do it everyday. Going to look for your story. :)

Two tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar, unfiltered with mother, and one packet of stevia in eight to ten ounces of water and ice. Taste like apple juice. This has nothing to do with slaw but is a way to drink vinegar.

I prefer to do it straight and get it over with. I also prefer to mix it with baking soda for 2 reasons:

1) ACV is acidic. By adding baking soda, you increase the pH to a more alkaline state.

2) By reducing the acidity, it makes it a bit easier to swallow. Plus, the effect is similar to carbination, so it's kind of like drinking an apple cider vinegar soda.

I'd suggest that a moderator split the ACV topic off of this into its own thread.
