my left kidney feels bruised

does anyone know what this is? going on 3rd day. i havent done anything strenuous. sorry to make this post so short. i really dont know what else to say about it other than it hurts.

It could just been a strained muscle if you twisted funny or picked something up a bit off.

i am far from a doctor but i really think its my kidney. its kinda below my rib cage but above my but cheek. lol. some where in the middle. i know i havent done anything to pull anything. lets pretend it my kidney- what would it be? giggles...i am starting to feel like a hypochondriac. i pointed and showed my husband, and he says its my kidney, but he isnt a doctor either.

When I have pancreatitus, it is a dullish persistent pain in what I would think was my right kidney type area.. In mild attacks, I get nausea which comes on about 20 mins after a meal and continues in a mild case for an hour or so and when it gets bad about 2-3 hrs....
My attacks are often a result of continued drinking.. not necessarily lots of drinking, but every day drinking..though gall stones are also a common cause of pancreatitus.

what do u mean drinking? like alcohol? i drink a glass of wine everynight. doubt thats it but..could be...?

ok--if i put my hand on my lower back - that would be what i consider my lower back pain. but if i take my hand and move it one whole hand size up above where i would consider my lower back to be, that's where it hurts. like below my rib cage on the left hand side? is that what i beleive to be my kidney?

It's possible that it's your kidney, but kidney pain also usually involves a pain equivalent to a "stitch" in your side. If that's what you've got, you may have a kidney stone. I get them all the time. They hurt, sometimes causing me to go to the ER for good pain meds. Once I went to the ER and they had to admit me for a lithotripsy procedure, because the stone was so large.

The pain, for me, comes in waves of really severe, then it calms for a while, then it comes again...kinda like early labor pains. When the stone gets "stuck", that's when I'm usually in the worst agony, and again run to the ER.

I meant alcohol... even a glass maybe if the pancreas is inflammed..but.. if it is the left side, it's not pancreas pain.. I had a bad bladder infection once and had brutal pain there.. mind, I also had pretty clear symptoms of a brutal bladder infection

Kidney pain is often felt in places other than where the kidneys are, anyway.

There is a special thing you can do to determine if it is your kidney or not. Take either hand, pick up a phone and call the doctor.

Torso pain often shows up in a different location than where the cause lays. My pancreas attacks felt like a heart attack. When I had a liver biopsy the pain came from the top of my shoulder. My GP blamed pain in the kidney area on my liver. The only thing the pain is telling you is you have a problem. The only way to find out is to have blood and urine work done. Likely a follow up with a CT scan or possibly an ultra sound if they know where to look.
