My husband and I have been married just about 18 months now, but we've started thinking about having kids. He can't wait to have kids, but I have concerns about it because of my diabetes. I moved to British Columbia, Canada from the US to marry him and haven't gotten my permanent residency yet, so I'm not covered under BC Medical yet. We're not planning on having kids until that is settled. However, I also don't have an endo here yet. If anybody could give me any advice on where my BG's should be to have a healthy pregnancy and how long they should be there before we start trying. Any advice on BC or Canadian healthcare in general would be appreciated too.
Thanks,
Jenn

Hey Jenn;
I dont know much aboiut BC but I can help with T1 and pregnancy. I have a 14 year old and she turned out healthy, very healthy. The diabetes is a hurdle, but nothing you cant deal with. Most important is your levels. Dont be scared about gping low, the baby wont feel it as much as it feels HBS. Im ready to try for baby #2 with a new marriage and Im sure it wont be as esy as it was the 1st time. More nervous about being a mom than the diabetes, lol.

When I became pregnant I was told by the doc that I should really have been in the low 6's for three months beforehand. However, since I became pregnant accidently that couldn't be helped and now I try to stay inbetween 4 and 6.
As to the BC stuff, try contacting Soso on here. She will probably be able to help.

Hi! I actually live in the Vancouver area,in BC, and the health care here is pretty good. Depending on where you live there is a Diabetes in Pregnancy clinic at Royal Columbian Hospital, run by Dr, Julie Lee (who is also my endo). I have done 2 pregnancies so far and are trying for the 3rd one (fingers crossed!). If you are in the lower mainland I would be more than happy to help you out with info etc.
Good luck!
Kelly
