Sirtris Pharmaceuticals Inc. said its formulation of resveratrol, a substance found in red wine, helped diabetics lower their blood sugar in an early-stage clinical trial.
2012 before we see a drug if it proves out.

I've been posting about resveratrol for a couple months. I had a big dose this morning. Why wait for the drug? It comes from muscadine grapes.
I'm doing a lot of things that contribute to my 2.8 point drop from Dx to my 2nd A1c 3 months later. I just have to wonder how much credit to allocate to resveratrol. The only help I'm getting from the pharmacy is aspirin and a multivitamin.

I wouldn't take anything pharmaceutical grade as far as something like this. Something from a plant, your body can recognize and use. Stuff from a pharmacy is usually chemical, instead of a natural substance, and is usually super-concentrated to the point that the cells do not recognize it as a useful substance.
Remember, natural is always best. Natural plant sterols and phytonutrients are always best when consumed from the raw product. The chances that you will get any quantitative effect from a pharmaceutical substitute is negligible.

I started taking 2000mg/day of resveratrol. My insulin requirements have gone down 50%.
(most resveratrol seems to come from China)
(large amounts of resveratrol is a laxative)

I purchase muscadine grape skin powder online from a farm in North Georgia (USA). Anyone can PM me if they want the web address.

I'd much rather drink my medicine with a good meal.
Interestingly one researcher claims that the posssible cardiac benefits of red wine are not to do with resveratrol but with another 'ingredient' procyanidin. This is contained in very tannic wines and the amount needed to bestow benefits is quite small. The highest amounts are found wines from SW France (particularly Madiran) and Sardinia.
Procyanidins in these unique red wine protects against heart disease (http://www.lifestylewines.co.nz/Articles/Wine+and+Health+Research+You+Should+Know.html?id=G DcQPaAA)
