Im curious to know, if you do any workouts or not.If you do, what type of workout do you do and how often? Myself, I run on the treadmill 6 days a week for 35 minutes a day. I also do lots of yard work that involve good bit of phisical a activites. I don't take any medications and my last AIC was 5.9.

I, too, do yard work without power tools and I walk. Yesterday I raked four barrels of leaves. Other than shovelling snow, that is about the only yardwork I'll have to fo until spring. So after I sign off here, I will be doing for a walk. I was doing a small amount of weight lifting, but I let that fall by the way side. In bad weather when I can't get out to walk I stair step on "aerobic step" in my basement. Can't afford nor have space for a treadmill, but I wish I could.

Two nights ago, I indulged and my BG was 194 before my walk. I felt horrible about that, but when I came back from my walk it was 84. After all these years, exercise still does a tremendous job on my BG, but without my meds, I can never get BGs down enough. I say, thank goodness for my meds.

I jump on my elliptical a while after eating and on average will do 30 minute workout. My numbers at the two hour pre-pandial come back in normal range. Today We went out to dinner and I had an average carb meal. Two hour check was 123. twenty five minutes of the elliptical and it came down to 103. I am ready to start jumping on that machine after each meal!

I do a complete workout in the gym 4 to 5 days a week, this includes 30 mins of cardio and 30 mins of resistance exercises. I also walk 3 to 4 miles when I can at a good pace and up steep hills.

I make the time to get outdoors (on average) 5 times a week for 90+ minutes a day. I walk (5+miles) in winter, ride a bicycle (15-20 miles) most of the year, or canoe in the summer) ...

On top of that, there is yard work ... there is always yard work.

I spend about 30 minutes on my treadmill 6 days a week. I don't run - I walk as fast as I can uphill. The number of calories burned is not much more if I run but the wear and tear on my joints is orders of magnitude higher.

I add a short workout with free weights every other day.

I aim for 5 days a week for about 30 minutes a day. Walking, weights or ellliptical.

I walk to and from work each day which amounts to about 40 minutes of walking five days a week. I also run 1.5 km a night four times a week and do some moderate weight training every second day. I wish I could do more unfortunately I let my diabetes go untreated too long and now have some muscle issues along with acute capsulitis in one arm that make exercising more strenuously difficult. Things have been improving so I'm hopeful with continued exercise things will get back to normal.

My neighbor and I walk 3 to 3-1/2 miles usually 5-6 nights a week. If the weather is bad, then I am forced to walk the "dreaded treadmill" while watching TV.

There is no difference in the amount of calories somebody will burn between walking and running. Why if you somebody runs they will arrive quicker than the person walking but the difference is made because somebody has to walk for a longer period. Save your joints and walk at a brisk pace to get the heart pumping.

Running will burn more calories per mile than walking.

Running doesn't destroy joints either. Running can do so if taken to excess, but if done with proper rest and recovery it can actually promote stronger joints, ligaments, and tendons, just like walking can.

But I think I'd generally advise people to take up walking first. Many people when they take up exercise programs go for the full out intensity stuff, and burn out or get injured because their bodies aren't ready for it.
