Sence I just have started taking insulin I'm only taking 16 units a day. My diabetic teacher has told me she knows of a person that take 400 units a day. How could anybody afford 400 units a day?

Thanks, Rob

I take between 50-60 a day on my pump. Sometimes less, sometimes more, but that's the norm.

Also, if one were to take 400 units a day, they'd be put on U-500 insulin instead of U-100. Granted, it's only in Regular that I know of (I haven't looked in a while to see if it's in a "log" insulin) but the price is very cheap on it and it wouldn't take so much injecting time (think of filling a needle up 4 times for a meal.)

I'm at between 30 and 45 units, depending on where I'm at in my menstrual cycle.

I just checked my pump and my daily totals range anywhere from 40 to 60. I entered 45-50 in the poll. It all depends on what I eat and how much.

I didn't know if you meant to just count the rapid acting, or both that and long acting?

For me:

Humalog -- 28
Lantus -- 26

But, I'm really new to this combination and am working on getting the right balance. I expect both numbers to be slightly higher before I get it right for now.

On a normal day, totally about 80 units. 48-50 Levemir (48 most of the time), depending on what time of month and it's not always i need those 50 units even at THAT time, and Novorapid according to what i eat. At the moment i'm catching a cold AND about to have my period in a few days, so go figure... I wouldn't be surprised if i hit 100 units today:eek:

I average around 500-600u per day. Type 2 with very high insulin resistance(typical of Agent Orange exposure). For the cost, insurance pays most of it, my co-pay for a months' worth is $9. Without the insurance my monthly cost would be somewhere around $1400-1600. I am a pumper so it is all Humalog.

Kevin...U500 is still regular, no "log" yet and it is getting very pricey and hard to find. I have thought about it but with it being regular and my "senior moments" , I think it would be too dangerous.

I don't think it's even available in Canada according to my pharmacist.

My split dose of Lantus totals 42 (24 am and 18 pm). If I make an approximate conversion of my Technosphere Insulin to Humalog it would be around 40 U. So that would overall total about 82 U per day.

Ok, so we're adding long-acting to short acting for total right?

Lantus: 25 units
Humalog: 15 would be average...but varies

Lantus: 18 units per day

Humalog: 15-35 units per day, depending on what I eat. I don't have a set amount of carbs I eat per day- it always varies greatly.

I’m on a low carb diet so I can get away with a pretty low TDD, which is currently:

Levemir- 3.5units am, 4.0units pm, total: 7.5units per day.
Regular- 4.0units B, 4.0units L, 3.0units D, total: 11.0units per day.
TDD: 18.5units.

Hi, I'm now taking 2000 mgs of Metformin and 5mgs of glyburide twice a day. My shot is a pen shot called Lantus SoloStar. I wonder if I can just take the shots one time a day over taking the pills and shots?

Thanks, Rob
