How long does it usually take for most of you just to get an Hemoglobin A1c test back? Exclude all other tests.

I usually have my blood work drawn on a Saturday morning since I work during the week. The doctor has the results by the following Tuesday.

Here in Ireland if the Blood is drawn in the morning at the Doctors office (outside of hospital) the results are generally available within 24-48 hours, often 24 hours.

If your labs are being sent to an outside lab, it should be 2-3 days...if its done in your doctors office, sometimes these are back in 24 hrs.

If done in my doc's office about 15 minutes.

If they send it out I get it all the next day, including lipids and PSA.

Before my endo merged with another group of endos, I used to go to the lab at least one week prior to my appointment. Now, my endo's lab draws the blood and the result is waiting for me when I enter the examination room.

I wish my doctor's office had that...i'm a hard person to stick and this would be so much easier for me. Is this your endo or family doctor?

Its interesting to see how long it takes us to get results back....guess it just depends on your doctor.

Linda, I'm a difficult draw also.

If all my doc is doing is an A1c they do a fingerstick and siphon a little blood up a very narrow tube.

My family doctor now has the 5-minute A1C test -- this is the first time they have done this in-house. This doctor's sister is a Type 1, and he takes a very special interest in diabetes. They got a kick about how excited I was!
