I have a friend that drank a quart of Moonshine every week for years and now he says he is a diabetic because the hospital found that his pancreas has been damaged.

How do the two have anything to do with each other? Are the two conditions / circumstances even related?
It could be like my friend smoked a pack of cigarettes a day and yesterday was killed in a car accident. (making a point, I did not recently loose a friend).
And drinking 32 ounces (1 quart) of hard alcohol a week is more than I'd drink, but is equal to "just" 3 drinks a day. I probably drink 1/4 that amount but I'm a woman and I also have to work for a living (LOL).

Alcohol consumption can be linked to chronic and acute pancreatitis, which can cause diabetes.
