 Impossible! That's what they tried to tell me today at my appointment. I said that can't be right!! I said that's lower than a normal person's a1c. I don't buy it. She said it was because it didn't have time to change and go up more because I wasn't diabetic for say six months or more. o_0

That's funny; I could've sworn it was like 9 or 10 or higher. I just don't remember.

I had to wait 45 minutes+ in the exam room after the nurse saw me before the doc came in. Tomorrow morning I have to go back in and have my a1c and cholesterol done.

Oh and I have to wait and see a dermatologist to get something for my skin too. Wait wait wait.

Between this **** and job hunting (don't ask) I've never wanted to get drunk so bad in my life.

Your doctor should have requested another test. It seems like that one was possibly botched...

Yeah seems a little odd if you were not hypo lots.

You'd have to be hypo a LOT to get an a1c that low!
According to An a1c of 4 is the same as an AVERAGE BG of about 65 - or 3.6mmol.
I can't even find anything that tells me what an a1c of 3.1 equates too, its just too low. Have you spent the last 3 months walking around in a fog of constant hypoglycemia? Or has the a1c come back wrong?

Or they put in a wrong number. They did other tests on me that day; could 3.1 be a number for a different test? I had CBC and thyroid panels done too, and potassium, liver and kidney tests too. I definitely didn't have any hypos before I was diagnosed.

Well tomorrow I'll have another one done; hopefully that will reflect it better....

A1c usually gives an average of your BG for the last 3 months. BGs for the last couple weeks have more weight and will affect the a1c more. I don't know where the 6 months came from.

No, she was saying I hadn't been diabetic long enough at diagnosis for it to be higher. It still doesn't make sense though because my BG was 479 when I was diagnosed and I read the A1C leans heavily toward the last month. There's no way it could have been that low. I wanted to say WTF, do you even know what you're doing?! Stupid doctors.

Without having tons of hypos a 3.1 is not possible. Either they mixed your lab results up, messed up the test, or gave you some other number instead. What surprises me is that she wouldn't recognize that odity when she gave it to you. You'd have to have TONS of lows to get an A1C that low.

surely loads of hypos would have generated a constant stream of liver dumps to compensate?!

theres no way (imho) that even a healthy diabetic could get an A1c like that...is there?

must be a lab error ;)

Another option is that it was a TYPO for 13.1 ??

That's what I'm wondering.

Come to think of it, I'm gonna see if I can change my next appointment to another doctor; this one was just stupid. I had to ASK to have my A1C done, and she asked me why I test "so many" times a day!! That's just bloody ridiculous. Never mind that I could barely understand her because of her accent, or that she didn't seem to be listening to me. Just get you in and out as soon as possible. :motz:

No, I haven't seen one yet. I just got on some insurance and I do'nt know if they want me to see one or not. It's sad when you go in and you know more about your disease than the doctors though.

Yes as I find that doctors just guess what to do. Doctors are just referal to their mates (specialists) Or prescibe you drugs that they think may work so they are a first medical (frontline) to other medical team and to my mind are hopeless.

Yeah, tell me about it. I wanted to get something for my skin while I was there too; I tried to ask her about the pill because it's supposedly bad for diabetics but she was just like oh I don't really know, I'll refer you to a dermatologist. Oh no really, take your time--I've only been fighting with this **** for 10+ YEARS!! Worthless people.
