so i have a question. does having a cold type sickness raise your blood sugar numbers? normally when i wake up im 95-110 i take my 10 units of lantus and eat breakfast. an hour after breakfast im 120-135, and 4 hours after my lantus im 75-80 ( i like to run a little on the lower side). so those are my numbers every day. you can pretty much set your watch to it.
this past week i have been all over the **** place and i have been slightly sick. minor congestion a bit of a sore throat and a small cough. so these pasy 7 days i have been waking up and in the 130-140s range and after breakfast in the 170s. also a couple of times i was in the 240s. i did a panic workout and brought myself down to 130 however an hout later i was up to 260.
is this all because of a minor illness or am i beginning to need something other then lantus my last 3 A1.c's have been 5.6 im not over weight (6'1" 185lbs) i work out and i have a prison strict diet.
hope you guys can help with some insight. my good doctor is on vacation for 2 months. :( i went and saw a fill in doctor and he talked to me like i was a moron untill i started to finish his sentences.

Yes, infections have a big effect on blood glucose. Increasing your Lantus should help. I would increase it by 20% and wait a few days. If your BG is still too high, you can try increasing it again. But you will have to test regularly and reduce the dose promptly when you get over the illness.

be safe though and do it gradually with the lantus!

My usual colds don't seem to affect my BG at all, but I just had a bad sinus infection that caused my BG to run about 90-100 points over what it would usually be.

Had a flu-like thing over new years & probably used 30% more insulin and tested more often as well tweaking the pump to keep things reasonable.
