Hi all,

My name is Barbara and I am a type 2. I was diagnosed just over two years ago (though my endo thinks i went undiagnosed for several years, it also runs in the family, mom, baba both type 2, my nephew type 1). My former family physician retired and after a lengthy stretch i found a gp i could work with and her being young and throurogh started me on this roller-coaster.

I have a pretty tenacious relationship with my endo, he started me off on the usual drugs, which did nothing because he figures my pancreas was already shot so after a battle of epic proportions (because I HATE needles) i have started on insulin about a month ago. My sugars are far more controlled (so far) but am having some side effects that i don't know are related to the insulin, the worst of which is depression.

I am on the waiting list for a clinical trial for the Canadian version of Beyetta that was supposed to start in this month but I have not heard anything yet.

I work out fairly regularly, have a great and supportive personal trainer. FOOD is my downfall, or rather my sweet tooth is. '

other than that I am an avid cyclist, have a cat, Vandal the destroyer, love good books and movies, and am a reality tv show addict.

Thanks for having this fantastic place and i ask for your patience since, yes i am such a n00b.

Barbara

Welcome to DF!
Great to see another Cat loving Canadian on here :)

Vandal the destroyer is by far one of the best names I have heard yeat for a cats name.
Classic.

You will quickly find that this site is a great place to meet others with the D - and also a great resource to read about others and what works for them.
If you have any questions at all - ask away - they will get answered.

Cheers~

Our Canadian cats have non-normal if not interesting names:

The late Thomas O'malley, O'malley the alley cat was named after Abraham de Lacey Giuseppe Casey Thomas O'Malley of the Aristicats.

LEO the lion says GER, Thomas' brother, is currently in his 12th year and is pictured below.
A mnemonic for differentiating the reactions is "OIL RIG": Oxidation Is Loss, Reduction Is Gain (of electrons) or "LEO the lion says GER" (Lose Electrons: Oxidation, Gain Electrons: Reduction)

Pyramid Head or PH was named by the kids. They were big into Silent Hill at the time.
