View Full Version : Body heat and type 1 diabetics

Hi, this is my first post here.... I have no idea why it took me so long to search out something like this, as I consider myself to be Net savvy (but obviously lacking in the intelligence departement! :)

Here's my question...... I've had diabetes for almost 20 years now (yikes) and I'm 27. I have so far avoided any serious problems or whatnot, and seem to have my hemoglobin to hover around the 7-7.4 mark (which I know needs to be lower....)

However, there is one thing I have, and I think it's related to diabetes, but no one can say for sure... My body temperature ALWAYS seems to be high. I am more comfortable in a 15 degree room than a 20 degree one (this is celsius.... I'm a Canuck, eh? :)) Whenever I do any physical activity, I sweat buckets...... People can touch my hands or back, and in their words I seem to "generate" heat, even if I'm just sitting around.

A fellow I work with is diabetic as well and he mentioned that he read somewhere that it's due to diabetes... However, I asked my specialist one time and she didn't seem to think it was. That if anything, it's a thyroid problem. Well, next time I went for tests, she had me down for thyroid tests, and I never heard boo about it.

So is this, as she said, "just me", or are their other's out there with this problem? (or blessing if you have a mate who's always cold.....)

Now, before you ask, yes, I could probably drop a few pounds and that would probably help.... ( I'm about 190 now, and 5' 8", which I know is 10-20 more than I should be....) but I've inherited my father's husky build, so I don't think the "ideal" weight is right for me anyway..... my **** neck is huge, but I guess it does have to support all the rocks in it!

Anyway, any ideas, or even better, remedies would be welcome!

Gangrel,

My 5 year old is a type 1 and she always complains about being hot and she is very thin. Her hands and feet are frequently cold, but so are mine and I'm not diabetic. She would wear tank tops and shorts all year round if I'd let her. I don't know if being so hot is related to diabetes or genetics.

I dunno either. But I'm usually always hot. :) It almost feels like I'm radiating it from the inside, like I'm burning up from the centre out. It's weird...... I've tried to find info on *anything* on the net but haven't done well so far.....

People can come close to me (ok, well, really close anyway) and they can feel it without touching me.....

Ah, who knows. I'll keep my eyes open and if I find anything, post it on the board!

My wife refers to me as the "human furnace." We keep the ceiling fan on year round - even on the coldest days of the year.

Hi Guys,

I used to be hot natured. Since diabetes, I get cold easily and find it hard to warm up. During a low blood sugar I get really hot, then have chills when I am normalizing.

Travis

i guess i will eat more ice

Does this mean that Gina will become the 'Ice Queen'?:p

I've always thought that we know more than doctors sometimes when something unusual happens.

When bs rises the body gets hot but that causes you to feel cold.
When bs lowers the body loses heat but the outside feels warmer to us.

thats what I've figured out so far...

Always been warm blooded before type 2 and after, but not as much after. Rarely zip up my jean jacket unless it's very windy and cold.

Some of it and some of it to age. Usually try to keep the home at 68 year round and that doesn't mean I'm wearing sweaters either.
