I'm going to be going on the pump and my trainer asked me if I knew how to count carbs. I had a diabetes education class several years ago, but apparently the way they taught me isn't what this trainer was talking about. Does anyone know of any online resources to explain the carb counting technique? Is there a book(s) I should buy? Is there a list out there with carbs per food per serving kind of thing?
Thanks for your help,
M.H.

Recently, I ordered the book Using Insulin by John Walsh and also for carb counting one called The Ultimate Guide to Accurate Carb Counting: Featuring the Tools and Techniques Used by the Experts (Marlowe Diabetes Library) by Gary Scheiner. It looks like a very good book and is easy to follow. The total for both books including shipping (which was free) was under $27 from Amazon.com http://www.whinny4me.com/Smileys/smartass.gif

Your local bookstore will have a wide variety of books on diabetes and carb counting. I picked up a paperback version (can't remember the name offhand) which listed over 10,000 food items, including fast foods, that listed not only carbs but calories, fiber, fat & protein. It cost $7.95.
When you're cooking at home, you can read the labels on the boxes or cans. Lean meats have little to no carbs.
Good Luck!

There's a couple of threads going around on digital food scales. You'll have to find them (search). The good ones come with a built in library of foods. They are very worthwhile investments.
