Hi all, well I am still going down with the Lantus dose. Lowered it to 5u at bedtime (after 6u for 11 days with 5 fasting lows). After 4 days on 5u with 3 fasting lows, last night I took 4u and woke up to another low. All lows are between 50-65. One thing I have noticed is the higher my bedtime BS, the lower my next day fasting #. I always have a snack at bedtime between 20-30g, usually yoplait and a few frozen berries SF pudding or 1/2 apple with PB.
I hate to keep asking you all thse questions but I guess I want to understand what is going on with my "Hobby". I love that reference.
I have lost 8 lbs and am more active(treadmill, bike) so I understand lowering the dose from the original 10u.
Is my liver not putting out? Do I need to change to a morning Lantus? Please help me understand.

Why are you on Lantus? If your body's insulin production is providing you with normal BG's, try just taking a fast acting insulin with meals to prevent spikes. Continue to cut back on the lantus to prevent fasting lows. Tell Dr. that you want to try just injecting basal bolus to compensate carbs and sugars that you may eat with meals. I am interested in how that will work. Please keep me updated

Yeah, I am no expert at all but it sounds to me like you may not need to be on a long acting insulin.

When I started with this post, I immediately thought of someone who's doing all the right things, is losing weight, and is healthier. I keep saying some people can work there way off of or away from meds, at least for awhile. Great job!

Thanks for the replies. My insurance diabetic coordinator is trying to get me hooked up with a diabetes educator. I live 120 miles from the closest program but she said we may be able to do this by phone or email, at least to sort out what all my numbers mean and get suggestions for MD. I'll keep you posted.:)
