Hi, my name is Theresa, I'm 34, probably a Type 1.5, using a Medtronic Minimed pump that I LOVE! :) Insulin is a lifesaver for me and I've never felt better. I'm happily married, no children yet, but hoping for begin trying in the near future. Nice to be here amongst others who understand what I live with every day...

:hello: Hi Theresa,

How long have you been "one of us"!? How long did you feel terrible before you were put on insulin? Welcome -- I'm glad you joined DF!

Hi Jan and Linda. I was actually called a Type 2 10 years ago when I was 24. I was a little heavy, but not really obese. I controlled it well with diet and exercise but over the years I needed more and more meds. The last 3-4 have been a challenge, with everything coming crashing down when I had a horrible rejection to an implant for chronic pain in May 2006. That rejection overloaded everything and my blood sugar soared. I was on 3000 mg of Metformin, 4 mg of Amaryl and 30 mg of Actos every day and I was still 250-400 every day. Finally last January I was put on a 70/30 insulin, while I was living in Morocco. This past summer I was back in the States and changed to Lantus and Novolog. About 2.5 months ago I went on my pump and use Novolog. None of my doctors believed all along that I was a 2, but never really thought I was a 1 either. Now looking at my medical history and the facti that I have had several auto immune issues, they now believe I am a 1.5. (Sigh) I don't care what they call me, I am insulin dependent, and feeling great!

The important part is you are now feeling well, enjoying your pump, and . . . we'll just call you Theresa!!

Thank you for the extra information; it's nice to see how we are so unique, but still have a lot in common. It's also nice to see a Theresa who spells her name right! I have a good friend with your name whose parents forgot the H!

Linda, I hope I can somehow help others. I was soooo happy to find a place where Type 1.5 is recognized. I have had so many Type 1s tell me I am not a 1 and I 'MUST' be a 2, and Type 2s are diabetic because of their own laziness. That makes me nuts. I did nothing to get this, I've always done what my doctors said, and yet I continued to progress until I needed insulin to survive. Sometimes I think people lose site of what is important, and that is the fact that diabetes is diabetes, regardless of the cause. I think I can learn a lot here and I am so glad I came across this site today. Thanks for having me here.:D
