My brother and I are both type one. He was diagnosed on January 18, 1982 (4 years old) and I was diagnosed on January 18, 1983 (11 months old) both with type 1. Besides us, NOBODY in our family line has diabetes of any type.
So you're not alone and we can relate. Welcome to the site.

I have a friend with the same. She's 18 now and he's 15. The dad was type 1 too, but he buggered off to the pastry kitchen in the sky a few years ago :(

I was diagnosed when I was 11 years old and my younger sister was diagnosed 2 years later. She was also 11. My dad had a cousin who is type 2, but other than that, there were no other family members on either side of our family.

Wow mhmachon, it seems your have some company. I am sorry your daughter has type one also. Welcome to Diabetes Forums.
I have type one and was diagnosed at 31. I am the only person in my family. I have five children and to date, non of them have diabetes. My oldest is just 31 now.

Me 1982 at age 2, my sister in 2000 at age 13. Both T1. No family history of T1 OR T2. Now that we're older we try to compete with our A1Cs. Though unless you have competitive kids, I wouldn't suggest that though. It could cause bitterness and resentment.
I know of at least 3 other families that have 2 sibs with T1, in all the cases the first child was pretty young and the second was a pre-teen or early teen. Also, interesting to note that all were the same sex as well.
As stressful as it may be, hopefully things aren't as overwhelming for you the second time through.

Welcome to the forum, Manuel.
I am the 5th of 6 children and both my younger brother and I are type 1 pumpers.

I was diagnosed with t1 when I was 22 and my brother a year after me. My son was diagnosed with t1 when he was 4, he's now 7. I'm hoping my daughter doesn't get it. Other than that, no one that I know of in my family has it. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

I am a type 1, but neither my brother or sister are diabetics, but BOTH of their sons (brother's oldest and my sisters only son) have type 1 diabetes. All three of us are pumpers (my brothers son and I use Deltec Cozmo pumps and my sisters son uses a Animas 1250 pump).
Type 1 and type 2 runs in my family
Type 1 on mum's side, and type 2 on my fathers side.
My nephews and I are 3 of over 100 known type 1's on my mum's side of the family.
I have heard of multiple families having more than one type 1 in the family. There is a family in the state that I am in, they have ALL three of their children with diabetes. Then there are several where either the mum or dad has diabetes and 2 out of 3 kids have diabetes..
They do say that there IS a genetic componant of diabetes mellitus type 1
