Hello Everyone

My name is Mary. I have been a Type 1 Diabetic for 49 years. I have retinopathy, kidney problems and some nerve problems and who knows what else. I don't think there is much this disease does not effect. I am still working a full time job. I try to have a positive outlook, although some days are hard.

Hello Mary, Welcome to DF and I see that you have a lot to tell in your experiences in this disease as I have too with 37 years in march unfortunately with complications too. :( All I can do is stay in control. :)

I hope you enjoy this forum and learn a few things too. I'm sure we can learn things from you too. We have a few members who have been type 1 about as long as you. I'm going on 29 years. I've come close to some potential problems, but so far my only real issue is arthritis in my hands, which is getting a bit better. I also had about 8 years of frozen shoulder pain which caused a trememdous amount of pain (at times) and lost sleep. Now that all that is gone, I feel pretty good. I too stay positive as much as possible. That alone can take you a long way! Welcome!!
