I just have to brag! I am so proud of myself. I was on a medically supervised liquid diet. Over a period of 4 months I lost over 50 pounds! I am now off all medication and my last HBA1c was 5.9! I know I'm not cured, I need to watch what I eat, exercise, and not gain my weight back, but I am so excited to be able to move diabetes from the very front of my mind!

Make sure to post again if you start to have trouble gaining weight ok?! Hopefully you are equipped with good post-liquid diet information!

Thanks!
I think I have been trained well on what I should do, it's more a question of what I actually do. The truth of the matter is I think that I will be pretty vigilant, I don't want to end up where I was before.

You should be proud of your accomplishment! Its great that you've managed to lose weight and get off your meds....to stay that way, however, will still require you to keep your diabetes "at the front" of your mind. I'd suggest that you still test your blood sugars often, so that you'll be aware if they start to trend upwards as you start implementing solid foods.

Congratulations. I've never heard of anyone who has done this...can you give us more info...such as what type of medical supervision was provided? Was it a doctor or nutritionist?
What will happen when solid food is eaten...I guess it could be same calories, right?

Excellent news. Not many people can follow through on this kind of regimen. That kind of dedication should help you keep the weight off and keep your type 2 at bay.
Bravo,

Congratulations, that's a great weight loss and A1c. Keep up the great work and I would suggest regular testing, I find my meter to be a great motivator to keep going on my weight loss regime.

We met with a dietician every week and had blood drawn twice a month, they would check glucose, cholesterol and some kidney and liver functions. Once a month we met with a doctor who would review our charts. Weekly we had a group meeting and were weighed and had a blood pressure check.
It was a very low calorie diet and they gradually add food back in, starting with lean meats and veggies, then fruit, dairy and carbs. I am still on about 1500-1700 a day and now that I have added carbs/grains back in I am monitoring my BG.
I will always fight with my weight and will continue to monitor my BG. It's a lifestyle for me now, not a 'diet'. Don't get me wrong, I do cheat once in a while, and I try to figure it into my daily food allowance.

Let's not call it cheating. Let's call it rewarding ourselves for a job well done!

I completely agree, we all need to reward ourselves every now and then.
