hi,i'm new to this forum. i am t1 for 21 years now.at the present time i am on humalog and humalin u.i also am on synthroid, and ace inhibitor for my kidneys.i was wondering if anyone had switched from a humalin to lantus?my dr is wanting me to be on a pump but i really don't think that would work for me ,the cost is a big factor.now i have the highs and lows but my dr is more concerned with the lows than the highs.my last a1c was 5.7.so i am trying to see about getting started on lantus instead of a pump.

Hi Christie,
Wanted to welcome you to the forums family! :D Here you will find many new friends with helpful info. and support. Feel free to ask questions, as there's definitely someone who could answer, or at least point you in the right direction.
While I'm not very keen on Lantus (as I was already on pump therapy when it came out), I have heard many good things about it from other users.
I understand completely the cost factors involved in getting a pump. The out of pocket expenses can be pretty steep, especially without insurance (or sometimes even with) coverage. Some pump companies offer interest free payment plans for those who must pay out of pocket. However, I also believe it is a personal choice, and ultimately up to the patient to decide. I hope this helps, and we all look forward to helping, chatting with and learning from you.
Sincerely,
Dewey

Hi Christie and Welcome. We are glad that you have joined us. I am a 20yr. diabetes vetern and am on Humalog and Lantus. There are some here who have taken Lantus and it's not worked. Personally, I have been on it for a little over a year and haven't had any unexplained problems. It just depends on the individual. I, too, have considered a pump but haven't made a decision. There is a great deal of support here from our pumpers (thanks Dewey!! LOL). I hope you enjoy your stay with us and learn alot of valuable info from everyone.
Cin:)
BTW, also on Levoxyl for thyroid.

Hi Christie~ Welcome. :)
I'm T1, too, and also use Humalog and Humulin U. I've also been thinking about Lantus, but since the Hum U seems to be doing the job, I haven't been seeking any real change. The thought keeps floating around though... lol

Welcome to the Forums, Christie! As you can see by the warm welcomes you've received here, we have a friendly and informative group of Diabetics from all over the world. I'm sure you'll enjoy it here and I hope you make lots of friendly connections.
I myself am a T1 for 13 years and have been on the pump for the past year. Like Dewey I have no personal experience with Lantus but there are many members here who will be able to help you. Also, there is a great search engine in the Forums if you'd like to view all past posts about Lantus.
Happy posting! :)

Hi Christie, and Welcome! I'm glad you found us. I'm on H and Lantus, and so far doing well for the most part. I was switched from NPH. It can take a while to find just the right dose, but it was worth it for me. I'm sure you'll find lots of information here, and make some new friends along the way.
Welcome again,
HeatherP

Hi Christie,
Welcome! :) Hope you find all the support, advice, and comfort you need here...it's a great forum.
I am on Humalog and Lantus. I was on the pump, but had some problems so am now back on injections for awhile. Things have improved somewhat, but now I am experiencing some problems again with rollercoaster bloodsugars...mostly highs  I guess there are still some kinks to be worked out, even if I am not on the pump. I think Lantus might help you, though it's different for each person. I think at least it's worth a shot (no pun intended :D) It's definitely worth considering and talking to your Endo about.
I wish you luck whatever you decide. Hope to see you around here more and hope to learn more about you :)

Christie,
I recently switched from Humulin N to Lantus. And it has been a big improvement. For me, it acts over the full 24 hours. But there does seem to be a peak. I am still going low at night. So I will probably switch from injecting the Lantus before bed to doing it in the morning.
The pump sounds like a good idea. But, I decided against it because of cost.
Cheers,
Mark
