View Full Version : Foot Pain: Excrutiating, crippling, random, quick

I've searched through the forum and reviewed numerous hits defining foot pain but didn't find anything that quite comes close to what I have recently experienced.

-very quick, short duration (500ms), stabbing, bone-grinding pain.
-no advance symptom: pain hits, pain gone; back to normal. Except for that state of fear that hits asking: "What was THAT??!!!!".

The pain is crippling, but does not last long (less than 1 second). Always happens when I am standing or maybe twisting (like when working around the kitchen: -short spin on your feet from the sink to the stove to the counter. Has never happened when sitting, driving, walking.
Feels like a clamp has been placed around the foot, instantly squeezed and released. Mainly affects the entire foot: toes to heel, but mostly in the centre of the foot. Only the left foot.

Sidebars: I am a verteran T1; 40+yrs experience. My control has been excellent most of my life. I am in very good shape and exercise regularly (hockey x 3 per week). Never taken a slapshot off the side of my foot. Have never had a foot injury of any kind (sprain, crack, break, severe impact injury.) Not overweight.

First thought of course is this is a variant symptom of neurapathy, but I did not read / find any similar experiences.
I will be seeing my endo on Thursday, and we'll be chatting about this recent development.

Anyone have a similar adventure?

Sounds like a trip to the podiatrist. All I know about feet is that half of the bones in your body are there. Sometimes it seems incredible that they ever work!

Lovely visit with my endo; she is really great. Very focused.
Acknowledges and confirms that I am not experiencing any neuropathy in my foot, and what ever t'blazes I am experiencing in this one foot, it IS NOT neuropathy.

Some doctors are so funny (hahahlol funny); and my endo is one of them.

And since it is not neuropathy, she had no idea of what it could be!! :hmmmm2:

Off to the podiatrist.

Glad to hear it's not neuropathy, hopefully the podiatrist will solve the mystery for you. I used to get, what my doctor called spurs on the bottom of my heels, I'm told it's a calcium build. Had it last July/August, hurts like ****, but it's there anytime you walk so don't think that's what you have.

Hey Dave, my wife just recovered from Plantar fasciitis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plantar_fasciitis), they call that "heel spur" too.

I'd bet it's hockey related, a pulled thingamajiggy. I'd see a sports therapist or kinesiologist first. Stride related problems would have likely been noticed by now in your life.

Keith,

That's the one! I tried have my heel/foot strapped up, it did bugger all except annoy me. I did not know it was associated with obesity (that's me) and had not heard about the glucosomine treatment. I have had two/three occurences and have found that I just needed to grin and bear it until it went away. The doc mentioned that surgery was a possibility, but I didn't go down that route. They are spot on about the first steps of the day, it was agony when I got up first in the morning. Give my sympathy to your wife!
