OK, my meter arrived this morning! I want to test myself during the day but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. What are the "bad, better, best" readings I should be looking for? I understand my FBG right now is 110 (test last week), for me 125 or above is bad, below 100 is better and between 70 and 80 is best? I eat 5 times daily (two are high protein/low carb shakes). If I test before and 2 hours after my meals what should the bad, better, best BG's be for me? I exercise 5 days a week 2 days in the morning and 3 days in the afternoons, I would like to see the effect exercise has on my BG's, weight training vs spinning vs running vs yoga. Any recommendations as to when I should do this and what numbers I should be looking for?

My A1C kit should arrive tomorrow.

Many thanks.

When diagnosed, I was told by my doctor to keep my blood sugars as close as possible to normal values, to hopefully minimize complications.

The "normal" levels given to me to strive for are:

Fasting: 110 or less
2 hrs after first bite of meal: 140 or less
Random: 110 or less

In testing my non-diabetic husband (when he'll let me;) ), his fasting is usually in the upper 70's or low 80's, and his 2 hr post meals are usually quite close to this as well. I've checked one hr post meal and he's been 120-140, but at the
2 hr reading, he's usually back to near fasting level.
